BeijingApril 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Amazon Web Services announced a significant expansion of its partnership with OpenAI, bringing cutting-edge intelligence to the cloud infrastructure trusted by millions of enterprises. As a key initiative of this expansion, Amazon Web Services has introduced the latest OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock (limited preview), alongside the OpenAI-powered coding Agent, Codex (limited preview), and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI (limited preview). Through this collaboration, customers can access cutting-edge intelligence while enjoying the security, efficient governance, and operational control of Amazon Web Services they rely on, seamlessly integrate AI-driven software development into their existing Amazon Web Services environments, and quickly and easily build production-ready, OpenAI-driven Agents in the cloud.

Enterprises seek to build using existing powerful AI models and Agents, while also requiring the security, mature operations, and data governance demanded by production workloads. Starting today, Amazon Web Services delivers these capabilities to customers through three new products (all in limited preview):
- OpenAI models onAmazon Bedrock: The latest OpenAI models are accessible via the same Amazon Bedrock API and console that customers already use.
- Codex onAmazon Bedrock: The OpenAI coding Agent on Amazon Bedrock for enterprise-scale software development.
- Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered byOpenAI: An optimized experience for building production-ready AI Agents on Amazon Web Services using OpenAI’s cutting-edge models.
These product launches provide choice and flexibility, enabling customers to use the best model for specific use cases on the world’s most widely adopted cloud.
OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock
Amazon Bedrock is built on the principle of offering customers the best model for each use case. Starting today, the latest OpenAI models will be available on Amazon Bedrock. For the first time, Amazon Web Services customers can seamlessly invoke OpenAI’s cutting-edge models using existing model access, fine-tuning, and orchestration services. This means customers can centrally evaluate and deploy OpenAI models, along with models from other leading providers such as Anthropic, Meta, Mistral, Cohere, and Amazon, through a unified and consistent service, all under unified security, governance, and cost control.
OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock fully inherit the enterprise-grade control features customers rely on. This includes access management based on Amazon IAM and Amazon PrivateLink connectivity, providing safety guardrails and encryption of data at rest and in transit, while supporting comprehensive logging via Amazon CloudTrail and seamless integration with existing compliance frameworks. Enterprises do not need to configure additional infrastructure or learn a new security model. Additionally, customers can charge usage fees for OpenAI models directly against their existing Amazon Web Services committed spend, enabling unified management of AI spending with broader Amazon Web Services workload costs. For enterprises already making significant cloud investments on Amazon Web Services, this initiative greatly simplifies procurement processes and financial management.
Codex on Amazon Bedrock
Codex is rapidly becoming one of the best examples of AI Agents efficiently executing tasks within enterprises. Over 4 million people use Codex weekly for automating coding tasks, writing and refactoring code, analyzing complex systems, generating test cases, and accelerating software delivery. With Codex on Amazon Bedrock, enterprise teams can directly access this OpenAI coding Agent within the Amazon Web Services environment where they already operate at scale. Customers can authenticate using their existing Amazon Web Services credentials, leverage Amazon Bedrock infrastructure for inference requests, and charge Codex usage fees against their Amazon Web Services committed spend. Currently, Codex on Amazon Bedrock is accessible via the Bedrock API, with initial support for Codex CLI, the Codex desktop application, and the Visual Studio Code extension.
Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI
Today’s most capable AI Agents have fully demonstrated the immense potential of cutting-edge reasoning models: they can execute complex, multi-step tasks with minimal human intervention. OpenAI’s cutting-edge models and Agent capabilities undoubtedly represent the forefront of industry breakthroughs. However, production-grade AI applications require more than just intelligence; they need robust enterprise infrastructure, security, and operational foundations to ensure reliability at scale. Furthermore, these applications require persistent memory across sessions, programming skills, authentication mechanisms with correct permissions, and compute options tailored to task requirements. Currently, building and assembling these components independently is often exceptionally complex for enterprise teams. To meet these core needs, Amazon Web Services has launched Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI. This service deeply integrates OpenAI’s cutting-edge models and Agent capabilities with Amazon Web Services’ global infrastructure, security, and the rich services trusted by millions of enterprises. With Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents, deploying production-ready, OpenAI-driven Agents on Amazon Web Services becomes fast and intuitive, allowing developers to focus on core functionality development without being distracted by underlying infrastructure.
Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents are optimized for OpenAI models on Amazon Web Services. Built using the OpenAI Agent framework, they are designed to fully unleash the potential of OpenAI’s cutting-edge models, offering faster execution speeds, sharper reasoning capabilities, and reliable control over long-running tasks. Security and governance features are built in from deployment: each Agent operates as an independent identity, fully logs all actions for auditing, runs within the customer’s secure environment, and all model inferences are completed on Amazon Bedrock. As enterprise Agent deployments scale to hundreds of thousands, customers will fully benefit from Amazon Web Services’ globally scalable infrastructure and can seamlessly connect to their data, applications, and services.

With Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI, developers can build optimized, production-grade AI applications that perfectly combine the exceptional capabilities of OpenAI’s latest models with the scale, security, and infrastructure advantages of Amazon Web Services. This powerful combination will create Agents that accumulate experience over time, deliver customized responses tailored to each user’s specific environment, and fully meet enterprise requirements for governance and auditability—all running smoothly on a cloud trusted by the industry.”
Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore
Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is an open platform that supports building, connecting, and optimizing Agents at scale using any model and framework. In contrast, Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents are specifically optimized for building solutions using OpenAI’s cutting-edge models and Agent capabilities. When developing with Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is a natural and excellent complement. It provides the default compute environment for Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents. As Agent use cases expand within enterprises, the combination of the two will offer additional advanced features, such as strict enforcement of authorization policies, discovery of Agents and their associated tools, and comprehensive observability and evaluation capabilities.
This launch marks the beginning of a deeper collaboration between Amazon Web Services and OpenAI. As OpenAI continues to push the boundaries of reasoning and Agent capabilities, both parties will continue to bring the latest technological advancements to Amazon Bedrock, ensuring that the models and Agents built today can continuously benefit from future innovations.
