Hong KongMay 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On May 12, Siemens Healthineers and Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital Group (hereinafter referred to as “HKSH”) signed a cooperation agreement at the “Asia Summit on Global Health,” establishing HKSH as Siemens Healthineers’ first Photon-counting CT Simulator (PCCT-Sim) Center of Excellence in Asia. The PCCT-Sim Center of Excellence will serve as a designated venue for industry technical training and observational demonstrations, enhancing the accuracy and consistency of diagnosis and positioning, supporting radiotherapy planning optimization, and providing important references for clinical decision-making. Mr. Li Weiwen, Director of the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation, Chief Operating Officer of HKSH Medical Group, and Director of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, and Mr. Sven Koster, Senior Vice President of Greater China and Head of Imaging Diagnostics at Siemens Healthineers, signed the agreement. Witnesses included Ms. Zhang Shihui, Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; Mr. Chen Weixu, Head of Business Development at HKSH Medical Group; and Mr. Yuan Weiqiang, Vice President of Hong Kong at Siemens Healthineers Greater China.
As a premier form of radiotherapy, proton therapy requires extremely high precision to maximize treatment benefits while minimizing the risk of radiation side effects. HKSH Cancer Center pioneered the introduction of the first proton therapy system in the Greater Bay Area in Hong Kong. In 2025, HKSH, as one of the first global users, introduced two PCCT-Sim units, and this year will introduce two more, making it the medical institution with the most Siemens Healthineers PCCT-Sim units worldwide, while actively conducting scientific and clinical research based on PCCT-Sim. In October last year, Siemens Healthineers and HKSH signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly promote the development and application of next-generation imaging technology in radiotherapy and treatment. This deepened cooperation will leverage clinical practice experience to support the ongoing exploration of related imaging technologies in clinical applications and provide a reference for the application of PCCT-Sim in precision cancer treatment.
Mr. Li Weiwen, Director of the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation, Chief Operating Officer of HKSH Medical Group, and Director of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital noted: “HKSH is honored to become Siemens Healthineers’ first PCCT-Sim Center of Excellence in Asia, reflecting our long-term collaborative accumulation in related clinical practices and technological applications. Based on local clinical practice experience, HKSH will participate in developing PCCT-Sim workflows and research protocols, and through scientific research and academic exchanges with Siemens Healthineers, jointly promote the ongoing research and practice of this technology in the fields of diagnosis and treatment.”
Mr. Sven Koster, Senior Vice President of Greater China and Head of Imaging Diagnostics at Siemens Healthineers stated: “Since signing the strategic memorandum of understanding with HKSH last year, both teams have continuously advanced the exploration of PCCT-Sim in clinical applications, particularly in cancer treatment, where we have practiced integrating imaging diagnostics, treatment planning, and radiotherapy into a cohesive whole. With today’s signing of the cooperation agreement, HKSH, as Siemens Healthineers’ first Center of Excellence in Asia, will provide a reference for healthcare professionals, medical physicists, and scholars from around the world. As a global medical technology company, Siemens Healthineers not only pioneers the adoption of new technologies but also invests innovation into scientific research and clinical practice. This deepened cooperation further solidifies the partnership between Siemens Healthineers and HKSH, reflecting our steadfast commitment to jointly advancing precision medicine.”
