MonacoMay 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — As the 2025/26 season reaches its midpoint, Formula E returns to one of the most legendary stages of all – the Monaco street circuit – for Rounds 9 and 10 of Season 12, held on May 16 and 17.

Collisions Abound at FE Monaco
For years, Monaco has remained one of the most special names in the world of motorsport. The sun of the French Riviera once again bathed Port Hercule, and this classic circuit, bearing countless glories and regrets, delivered an intensely fought weekend, with 20 drivers providing global fans with spectacular and twist-filled races.
In the first race, full of battles and uncertainties, a steady performance from Nyck de Vries ultimately secured him the victory, claiming his 5th career Formula E race win and delivering Mahindra Racing’s first triumph of the GEN3 era. Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans finished 2nd, overtaking Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein to top the Drivers’ Championship standings. CUPRA KIRO rookie Pepe Martí made his first Formula E podium appearance, becoming the first Spanish driver to achieve this feat.
De Vries was among the first drivers to utilize the PIT BOOST, entering the pits on lap 16. Subsequently, he wisely chose his timing to activate Attack Mode, overtaking the then-race leader António Félix da Costa on lap 20, remaining unfazed by the intense battles around and behind him. From that point on, he was unbeatable, ultimately crossing the finish line with a three-second lead over the chasing pack.
Pole-sitter Dan Ticktum of CUPRA KIRO seemed assured of third place, but a late-race collision with da Costa resulted in a post-race time penalty, forcing him to relinquish the final podium spot to his teammate Pepe Martí.
On the second day in Monaco, the wheel-to-wheel combat escalated further. Nissan’s Oliver Rowland delivered a perfect Formula E race in Monaco, securing victory in Round 10 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. He successfully navigated the race’s various dramas, crossing the line first ahead of Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich and Jaguar TCS Racing’s António Félix da Costa.
Starting from eighth on the grid, Rowland came through the field in the latter half of the race as the situation shifted with Attack Mode activations. The first half of the race saw constant position changes among the top ten, with competition incredibly fierce. The Nissan driver excelled in energy management, weaving through the pack, and took the lead at the new chicane on lap 23 (of 28). The British driver secured victory in Monte Carlo for the second consecutive year.
During the race, two Full Course Yellow periods were triggered due to overly aggressive overtaking maneuvers in the rear of the field. Rowland calmly handled the special circumstances, beating Eduardo Mortara on track to cross the finish line first.
Mortara, however, received a 10-second time penalty, ultimately finishing fifth. This promoted Drugovich to second place, earning his career-best result – 4th in Round 9 and a podium in Round 10 – completely erasing the Brazilian driver’s disappointment from Berlin.
Da Costa, who led briefly in the latter part of the race, finished third, recovering from the dramatic events late in Round 9. The Portuguese driver crossed the line just ahead of his Jaguar TCS Racing teammate Mitch Evans.
Despite securing a double pole position in Monaco, CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum failed to convert his advantage into points – after choosing to activate Attack Mode late in the race, he ultimately finished 14th following a time penalty.
Post-Race Interviews – Round 9:
- Mahindra Racing driver Nyck de Vries said: “This is my first win with Mahindra. It was a fantastic day, and the car was fantastic too. The team did a great job, and we executed a good strategy. I’m a bit emotional because the last few seasons haven’t been easy, so I’m really happy to get the win today. When I joined the team in 2024, we were at the back. In recent years, we’ve been getting better and better, with growing ambitions. I’m very happy to progress together with the team.”
- Jaguar TCS Racing driver Mitch Evans said: “It was a very straightforward race; strategy was key today. I was a bit conservative at the start, but after the pit stop, the situation increasingly swung in my favor. I’m happy with second place, and I scored a lot of points. Congratulations to de Vries and Mahindra. We’ll keep pushing tomorrow. Results like this are very helpful for the World Championship fight. We need to stay grounded and perform well in every race.”
- CUPRA KIRO driver Pepe Martí said: “I don’t know what happened. I was already very happy with fourth place, but unfortunately, I heard Ticktum got a penalty. To stand on the podium, especially in Monaco, makes me incredibly happy. The car felt great, and both Dan and I had good performances. I’m still in shock; this feels like a dream.”
Post-Race Interviews – Round 10:
- Nissan driver Oliver Rowland said: “It’s been almost a year since I last stood on the top step. It was a crazy race. Some drivers chose different strategies, while I maintained a high pace. Staying disciplined was really tough. I knew we had to maintain a higher level in terms of energy targets, but staying disciplined and staying out of trouble was key. You never know if there will be a Safety Car; its appearance raises the target values. I was confident in what I was doing, and the team kept me fully informed. I felt very confident.”
- Andretti driver Felipe Drugovich said: “To achieve this result on this track is fantastic. I love this place. I think every time I’ve come here, I’ve made it onto the podium, so I’m happy to continue that streak. To get my first Formula E podium in a place like this makes me really, really happy. A huge thank you to the team for being patient with me when I couldn’t even sniff the podium in the first few rounds. Now we’re achieving great things, so thank you to them.”
- Jaguar TCS Racing driver António Félix da Costa said: “I don’t know whether to be happy or angry. This season, I’ve been hit from behind multiple times, letting races slip away from us. I can’t believe it. On the very first lap, I thought everyone was still settling in. I got hit from behind and dropped all the way to the back. But thanks to a good strategy from the team and taking a lot of risks – you can tell from my car – I managed to fight back to the front. I need to review it, but I think the first Full Course Yellow came at a good time for me. After that, it was about managing the energy until the end. Congratulations to these guys. After what happened, I’m happy to be on the podium with them today.”
Monaco Shines with Star Power: F1 Drivers and Celebrities Flock to the Circuit
Several F1 drivers – including Carlos Sainz, Nico Hülkenberg, and rookies Ollie Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto – gathered at the 2026 Formula E Monaco E-Prix. The weekend served as a nostalgic reunion for this group (many of whom raced against the current Formula E field during their junior careers). It also offered them a chance to study Formula E’s advanced energy management systems ahead of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix on the same streets in a few weeks, especially as F1’s upcoming regulations mandate a near 50/50 power split between internal combustion and electric.
Other celebrities included actor and musician Idris Elba, F1 Academy Managing Director and former Venturi FE CEO Susie Wolff, and model and creator Olivia Ponton.
Sunday’s paddock welcomed two more heavyweight guests. Watching from the Andretti garage was F1 World Champion Lando Norris, there to support his friend Jake Dennis. Norris had an immersive experience with the team and got an up-close look at the new GEN4 car after F1 legend David Coulthard completed a track demonstration.

F1 Drivers and Celebrities Gather at the Circuit; Lando Norris Watches the Monaco Race
F1 World Champion Lando Norris said: “I’m really happy. This is my first time at a Formula E race. There are a lot of drivers I know racing here, and the racing is always good to watch; there’s always chaos, there are always collisions, it’s always unpredictable – exactly what you want to see from a racing series!
“I grew up with many of these drivers, or I’ve raced against them on track. The level of drivers here is top-tier – it’s the best you’ll see. What you’re watching is a series with top-level athletes, some of whom are the best in the world – it’s something I enjoy watching and being a part of.
“I’ve planned to drive a Formula E car at some point. I’ve spoken to Jake Dennis and some other drivers here who have driven them. Not everything translates between F1 and Formula E, but you can always learn something by talking and listening to the drivers in this top category.”

GEN4 Car to Appear at Goodwood Festival of Speed
David Coulthard, Formula E Broadcast Analyst and former F1 driver, said: “That’s the most powerful acceleration I’ve ever experienced in Monaco. What I just felt driving the GEN4, compared to what [future drivers] will be able to do with it… They are going to experience something never seen before in motorsport. I’m speechless! What a machine! “
“You absolutely cannot compare the GEN3 and the GEN4. The GEN3 and GEN3 Evo were top-notch in their time, but the GEN4 has all-wheel drive; the acceleration out of every corner is something you’ve never experienced. Once you hit the apex, you realize this car can handle everything you throw at it. It’s completely extraordinary. It’s redefining the possibilities of racing. “
“I’ve driven many cars over the years – I had an idea of what all-wheel drive might feel like, but a car weighing under 1000 kg with over 800 bhp… that’s an impressive acceleration performance. “
“Going through the tunnel for the first time felt like hyperspace in ‘Star Wars’! I’ve been through there thousands of times, but never like that.”
The glamorous Monaco crowd gathered in full force to witness all-electric racing on the streets of Monaco. With the sport’s rapid global growth, Formula E is increasingly attracting top-tier names from sports, entertainment, and culture, solidifying its status as one of the most exciting and culturally relevant championships in world motorsport.
