E Ink and MediaTek Deepen Collaboration on Generative AI SoC, Integrating Color ePaper Technology to Enhance Reading Experience, Targeting the Color Education and Reading Markets

YangzhouMay 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — E Ink Holdings, the global leader in electronic paper technology, and MediaTek, a leading IC design company, announced today (26th) that they will deepen their collaboration. By integrating MediaTek’s world’s first system-on-chip (SoC) designed specifically for generative AI e-readers with built-in hardware timing controller (Hardware TCON), they will simultaneously support the latest color ePaper technology platforms, E Ink Gallery™ and E Ink Kaleido™. Together, they aim to strategically position themselves in the e-book reader and education markets centered on color content, further enhancing the smart reading and digital learning experience.

Gino Hung, Deputy General Manager of the Business Center at E Ink Holdings, stated: “Continuing our long-term partnership with MediaTek, we are consistently optimizing the ePaper display experience. By combining the next-generation SoC with the latest color ePaper technology, we achieve faster refresh rates and more delicate color presentation. This also opens up more diverse application possibilities for ePaper in the education and reading markets, providing a new user experience that combines eye protection with the advantages of digital interaction.”

Adam King, General Manager of the Personal Device Division at MediaTek, stated that since collaborating on the first-generation product, MediaTek and E Ink have jointly entered the global e-book reader market and successfully gained favor from leading global e-book manufacturers. Facing the paradigm shift brought by generative AI, the two companies perfectly combine MediaTek’s edge AI computing power with E Ink’s full-color ePaper display technology. This not only endows ePaper with an ultimate visual experience but also gradually evolves the original digital reader into an e-notebook supporting smooth handwriting and smart terminal devices capable of offline real-time voice recording and translation.

MediaTek’s latest generative AI e-reader SoCs, MT8115 and MT8126 (supporting Linux and Android platforms respectively), feature built-in MediaTek NPU processors with 7.4 TOPS AI computing performance. This supports on-device AI applications such as multi-person voice recognition, meeting transcript generation, meeting summaries, and real-time translation of over 20 languages. In terms of display technology, they support oxide thin-film transistor (Oxide TFT) 7-level high-voltage driving technology. By accelerating the movement of ePaper ink particles, it significantly improves screen update speed and display cleanliness, providing a smoother and more detailed reading experience. It can support ePaper panels up to 13.3 inches with 300 PPI high resolution. When paired with E Ink Gallery™ technology, it supports up to 7-bit color depth and expands the color gamut range through dithering technology, making color content presentation more precise and delicate, particularly suitable for educational applications rich in illustrations, textbooks, and images.

Additionally, on the E Ink Kaleido platform, both SoCs support partial fast refresh and dynamic low-ghosting algorithms, effectively improving screen transition smoothness. This enables a smoother web browsing and animation playback experience, further expanding the application potential of ePaper in interactive learning and multimedia content.

Through this deep collaboration, the technical potential of E Ink Gallery and E Ink Kaleido color ePaper in high-speed refresh, low ghosting, and full-color detail display is further unleashed, achieving a multitasking ePaper experience with simultaneous upgrades in image quality and operational smoothness. MediaTek will continue to leverage its advanced SoC solutions to work with E Ink Holdings in promoting the development of smart reading and paperless applications.

MediaTek’s two latest ePaper platforms are expected to be first adopted in the next-generation ePaper tablets from Linfiny, a subsidiary of E Ink Holdings. Combined with the latest E Ink Gallery color ePaper platform, they will demonstrate the optimized results of integrating ePaper display technology with the SoC through a complete device design.

E Ink Holdings and MediaTek will jointly showcase related solutions at COMPUTEX 2026. Visitors are welcome to visit MediaTek’s booth at L0818, Hall 1, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, and E Ink Holdings’ booth at D0101, Hall 1, Taipei World Trade Center during the exhibition period.
