Chair of Cellular and Molecular Oncology, Collège de France, France and
Zhu Chen
Professor, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China
for their discovery of the molecular and cellular pathogenesis of acute promyelocytic leukemia and the development of a synergistic targeted therapy, transforming this disease from one of the most lethal cancers to one with the highest cure rates.
Mathematical Sciences Prize is awarded equally to
Emmanuel Candès
Barnum-Simmons Chair in Mathematics and Statistics, Stanford University, USA and
Camillo De Lellis
IBM von Neumann Professor, School of Mathematics, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, USA
for their breakthrough contributions in applying profound mathematical analysis techniques to important applications: the former rigorously solving key problems in information theory, signal processing, and statistics; the latter advancing research in geometric measure theory and singularity problems in fluid dynamics.
The Shaw Prize Foundation announced the above seven scientists as laureates at a press conference in Hong Kong today, May 27 (Wednesday). All information was uploaded to the website www.shawprize.org at 15:30 Hong Kong time (GMT 07:30). The Shaw Prize comprises four awards, including the Astronomy Prize, Life Science and Medicine Prize, and Mathematical Sciences Prize, awarded since 2004, and the Computer Science Prize, to be awarded for the first time in 2027. The prizes are awarded annually, each with a monetary award of US$1.2 million. This year marks the 23rd presentation, with the date of the award ceremony to be announced later.
