Huawei Receives DEKRA’s First Global Certificate for Large-Scale Fire Testing of Data Center Lithium Battery Cabinets, and Obtains CTF1 Laboratory Accreditation

DongguanMay 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Recently, at the 2026 Huawei Global AIDC Industry Forum, DEKRA officially awarded two significant certificates to Huawei: the world’s first ANSI/CAN/UL9540A:2026 Large-Scale Fire Test Compliance Certificate for the Huawei SmartLi 5.0 data center lithium battery cabinet, and the CTF Stage 1 Laboratory Recognition Certificate for the Huawei Energy Storage Safety Certification Laboratory. The issuance of these two certificates marks that Huawei’s energy storage safety technology and laboratory capabilities have both reached international authoritative standards, setting a new benchmark for global energy storage safety.

Part 01: Addressing Stringent New Industry Standards, Upgraded Fire Test Poses Unprecedented Challenges

The ANSI/CAN/UL9540A:2026 (Sixth Edition) standard, on which this data center lithium battery cabinet certification is based, was officially released in March 2026. It has now been adopted as a core access requirement by authoritative bodies such as the U.S. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 855) and the International Code Council (ICC). Compared to the previous version, this standard mandates large-scale fire testing as a compulsory requirement for the first time, requiring safety performance verification of energy storage systems under conditions such as full charge, minimum installation spacing, and open environments. As a core member of the UL TC 9540 Standards Committee, DEKRA participated fully in the development of the ANSI/CAN/UL9540A:2026 standard.

Part 02: Huawei Successfully Passes Stringent Testing, Laboratory Capabilities Gain International Recognition

In this large-scale fire test, Huawei proactively imposed even stricter test conditions beyond the standard requirements. The test results showed that the tested data center lithium battery cabinet prevented thermal runaway from spreading to adjacent compartments, with the fire contained within a single unit; the unaffected cabinets and monitoring protection systems operated normally without failure of critical components; temperature anomaly alarms were fully recorded, and all functions remained intact. The Huawei SmartLi 5.0 ultimately passed the stringent testing, meeting all requirements of Chapter 10 of ANSI/CAN/UL 9540A:2026 (Sixth Edition).

Additionally, the Huawei Energy Storage Safety Certification Laboratory successfully passed DEKRA’s rigorous audit and obtained the CTF1 Laboratory Recognition Certificate. This signifies that the laboratory’s equipment configuration, personnel qualifications, quality management system, and testing capabilities all meet the relevant requirements of the IECEE (International Electrotechnical Commission System for Conformity Testing and Certification of Electrotechnical Equipment and Components). In the future, test data generated by this laboratory will be recognized by IECEE member countries worldwide, helping to shorten product certification cycles and improve R&D efficiency.

Part 03: DEKRA: Continuously Driving Synergy Between Energy Storage Safety Standards and Technology

In his keynote speech at the forum, Dr. Kilian Aviles, Executive Vice President and President of the Asia-Pacific Region at DEKRA Group, stated that as an independent third-party inspection, testing, and certification organization, DEKRA has long been deeply involved in the energy storage safety compliance field, continuously contributing standard-setting expertise, compliance testing technologies, and global market service capabilities. This collaboration with Huawei to achieve multiple authoritative certifications represents an efficient integration of international authoritative standard system practical experience with Huawei’s cutting-edge energy storage technology innovation. In light of the global trend toward low-carbon energy transition, DEKRA will continue to uphold its professional third-party service principles, deepen multi-dimensional industrial collaboration with Huawei, and jointly build a more comprehensive global energy storage safety standard system. This will drive the continuous upgrade of safety technologies in the digital energy industry and support the high-quality, stable development of the global clean energy sector.
