Zebra Smart Chairman Zhang Jianfeng: Full-Modal On-Device Large Models Will Enable Proactive Cockpit Intelligence

ShanghaiJune 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — “Artificial intelligence is bringing fundamental changes to the software industry, with a new system architecture centered on reasoning capabilities being built and taking shape.” On June 5, at the Qualcomm Automotive Technology and Cooperation Summit, Zhang Jianfeng, Partner of Alibaba Group, President of DAMO Academy, and Chairman of Banma Intelligent, stated that Banma Intelligent has launched the industry’s first full-modal on-device large model, AutoOmni. Through full-modal perception and powerful reasoning capabilities, it provides users with more innovative and proactive services.

Smart cabins are ushering in a new round of experience revolution, evolving from one-way command control to interactive and integrated services. The next-generation smart cabin will feature natural interaction, proactive intelligence, integrated services, and comprehensive security. Zhang Jianfeng pointed out that, compared to the development of foundational large models in depth and breadth, AutoOmni, as a dedicated model for smart cabins, serves travel and the vehicle itself. It shields complex hardware through perception fusion, computing fusion, and service fusion, making it easier to generate AI-native agents for the smart cabin.

AutoOmni has a product matrix ranging from 3B to 30B parameters, with both dense and MoE architectures, featuring low latency, high precision, and privacy protection. At the same time, based on full-modal capabilities of long-term observation, long-term listening, and strong memory, Banma Intelligent has achieved a 45% improvement in natural interaction quality on its research test vehicles, a 35% increase in service connection success rate, and an end-to-end response time of less than 500 milliseconds for safety perception. In the first half of this year, the China Society of Automotive Engineers awarded AutoOmni a certification for leading technological achievements.

At the summit, Zhang Jianfeng emphasized that while automakers’ vertical integration R&D model can be very successful, an industry division of labor model can make the industry more prosperous and create more new value. Using the collaboration with Qualcomm as an example, he explained how to define a new paradigm for on-device intelligence. On top of Qualcomm’s high-performance computing infrastructure, Banma Intelligent provides professional AIOS, on-device models, development frameworks, and integrated ecosystem services, helping automakers build their technical systems and develop innovative AI applications.

Discussing the development of Banma Intelligent, Zhang Jianfeng noted that in 2014, when the internet reached its peak and artificial intelligence represented by deep learning began to rise, Alibaba, beyond e-commerce, had already deployed terminal operating systems. It began collaborating with SAIC to pioneer internet-connected cars, making vehicles smarter and connecting them to Alibaba’s lifestyle platform.

Banma Intelligent has collaborated with a total of 69 automakers, deployed in over 10 million smart vehicles, and connected with more than 400 content and service ecosystem partners, including Alibaba’s services. As a pioneer, innovator, and leader in smart cabin AI, 65% of mainstream automakers have chosen Banma Intelligent’s AI solutions.
