Co-organized by the Publicity Department of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, and hosted by the Western International Communication Center, the international symposium on “The Global Significance of Chinese-style Modernization” will be held in Chongqing.

Themed “Embracing Modernization, Building a Shared Future,” the event focuses on “Mutual Learning on Global South Development and Chongqing’s Practice of Chinese-style Modernization.” Think tank experts and scholars from China, Singapore, Hungary, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Peru, Syria, and other countries will gather in the mountain city. Through field visits, topic discussions, keynote speeches, and roundtable dialogues, they will jointly explore the reference value and cooperation opportunities of Chinese-style modernization for Global South countries.
The event will use Chongqing’s practices as a research window to build a high-end platform for mutual learning between theoretical research and international communication. It will bring together high-end think tanks, authoritative experts, international communication institutions, and mainstream media from China and abroad to promote inter-civilization exchanges, mutual learning, and global development cooperation.
Field Visits: Stepping into the Frontline of Chongqing’s Development
From June 16 to 17, Chinese and foreign experts will visit Chongqing, China’s inland open hub, to conduct on-site research on the city’s specific practices and achievements in regional connectivity, industrial upgrading, meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation, mega-city governance, and ecological protection. This will provide an intuitive understanding of the rich connotations of “Chongqing’s Practice.”
International Symposium: Discussing the Path to Modernization
On June 18, the international symposium on “The Global Significance of Chinese-style Modernization” will be held at the Western International Communication Center campus. Foreign experts, including Pablo Bormaro, Secretary-General of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, will attend. During the conference, the annual key research topics will be released and signing ceremonies will take place. The expert committee for the international symposium on “The Global Significance of Chinese-style Modernization” will be established, with certificates of appointment issued. Additionally, the revamped international observation column “Global Vision” will be launched.
During the keynote speech session, Chinese and foreign experts will share insights on topics such as “The Value of Chinese-style Modernization for the Global South,” “New Paths for the Rise of Major Powers,” “Green Transformation and Cooperation Opportunities with Central and Eastern Europe,” and “Chongqing’s Exploration in Urban Governance and Open Development.”
The roundtable discussion, themed “From Development Consensus to Local Practice: Chinese-style Modernization and the Development Path of the Global South,” will bring together Chinese and foreign experts for dialogue. They will delve into how Chinese-style modernization can provide a replicable development paradigm for regions like Latin America in the Global South.

Themed Book Exhibition: Building a Bridge for Academic Dialogue
As a supporting activity for the symposium, the themed book exhibition on “The Global Significance of Chinese-style Modernization” will be held concurrently at the Western International Communication Center campus. The exhibition, structured around the thread of “Theory—Practice—Dialogue,” will showcase the “Six Perspectives” series on Chinese-style Modernization, as well as representative works from foreign institutions such as the Latin American Council of Social Sciences and the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. It will also feature local Chongqing theoretical and practical achievements. Works by Chinese and foreign scholars will be presented side by side, offering a comprehensive display of academic equality and mutual learning between scholars from China and abroad.
