Osaka, JapanJune 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Daicel Corporation, a global leader in engineering plastics, announced through its High Performance Polymers (HPPs) SBU (formerly Polyplastics Co., Ltd.) that its DURAST(R) POM fine powder has been adopted by Japan’s Maia Co., Ltd. for an innovative “stick-type” lubricant product. This breakthrough solid lubricant utilizes the newly launched DURAST(R) POM fine powder, addressing issues such as dripping, splashing, and waste from over-application common in traditional lubricants, significantly revolutionizing maintenance workflows.
Maia’s unique Sol-Mid(TM) manufacturing technology produces lubricants typically packaged in stick-shaped containers, which can also be molded into various custom shapes based on customer needs. The performance of Sol-Mid(TM) relies on the chemical properties of DURAST(R) POM. The product is prepared by blending ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) with grease. DURAST(R) POM acts as an intermediate layer between the PE and grease, playing a key role in maintaining compatibility between the two.
The stick form eliminates the risk of liquid lubricant leakage and is easy to carry, greatly enhancing convenience in maintenance scenarios such as office equipment and industrial machinery. When used for office equipment maintenance, the product can reduce traditional lubricant consumption by approximately 80%.
Previously, conventional grinding processes made it difficult to process general resins into uniformly sized powders. Daicel developed its own manufacturing process to create the DURAST(R) POM product, featuring a unique powder form with controllable, fine, and uniformly distributed particle sizes.
This “stick-type” lubricant using DURAST(R) POM is planned for full market launch, targeting maintenance applications across major office equipment manufacturers, as well as industrial sectors such as machinery repair, bicycle maintenance, and conveyor belt systems.
