ShenzhenJune 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Fibocom has launched the storage-optimized 5G module FG550-EAU based on the Samsung Exynos Modem platform. While fully retaining business functions and customer customization capabilities, it optimizes the memory specification from LPDDR4x 8Gb to LPDDR4x 4Gb, achieving a memory capacity optimization ratio of 50%.

Fibocom FG550 supports 4Gb LPDDR4x configuration
Addressing the demands for cost control and stable delivery in 5G terminal mass production, this solution helps customers reduce terminal BOM costs, enhance supply chain resilience, and provide a more deterministic selection option for large-scale commercial deployment.
Refined Memory Optimization, Balancing Cost and Performance
Currently, driven by demand from AI servers and data center construction, the global storage chip supply remains tight, with increasing price volatility. As a key component of communication modules, the cost and supply stability of memory directly impact the overall hardware cost and production pace of 5G terminals.
In response, Fibocom has implemented refined memory optimization for the FG550-EAU. Through comprehensive underlying code review, memory scheduling strategy restructuring, and fine-grained allocation of system resources, Fibocom has overcome challenges such as underlying adaptation conflicts, memory usage control, multi-branch code management, and feature pruning risks, achieving stable implementation of the 4Gb specification.

Refined memory optimization, balancing cost and performance
The optimized FG550-EAU retains key functional features and the ability to customize services for customers, while improving system resource utilization efficiency, balancing terminal user experience and power consumption.
On the supply chain side, 4Gb LPDDR4x is a mature, standardized, and commonly used component with a broader supply base and production capacity assurance. Combined with Fibocom’s diversified supply chain system, this solution effectively reduces reliance on single high-specification storage components, enhancing batch delivery and long-term supply assurance capabilities.
High-Speed Connectivity and Open Adaptation, Supporting Multi-Scenario Terminal Deployment
After the storage configuration optimization, the FG550-EAU still fully maintains its core communication capabilities for high-performance 5G terminals. The module supports the 3GPP Rel.16 protocol, featuring high speed, low latency, and high reliability communication characteristics, making it adaptable to diverse application scenarios such as 5G FWA, mobile broadband, industrial communication, high-definition video transmission, and whole-home broadband.

High-speed connectivity and open adaptation, supporting multi-scenario terminal deployment
In terms of transmission performance, the FG550-EAU supports NR 5CC multi-carrier aggregation and is backward compatible with the LTE Cat.20 full-network specification, enabling 4G/5G dual-mode switching to adapt to mainstream global 4G/5G network environments.
Regarding device development and system adaptation, the FG550-EAU adopts an open architecture design. It has completed joint debugging and adaptation with mainstream AP application processor solutions from Broadcom and Realtek, helping customers shorten the R&D, debugging, and mass production cycles for FWA terminal devices.
“Samsung Exynos Modem and Fibocom have maintained close cooperation for a long time. This memory optimization solution fully demonstrates Fibocom’s outstanding engineering capabilities and professionalism,” said Pan Xuebao, Senior Vice President of Samsung Semiconductor China Research Institute and Head of the System LSI R&D Center. “We highly recognize this breakthrough that balances performance and cost, and look forward to continued collaboration between both parties to jointly empower global 5G terminal innovation.”

Helping reduce 5G terminal costs, a better choice for large-scale commercial use
This storage configuration optimization for the FG550-EAU is a technological innovation practice by Fibocom focused on customer mass production needs. In the future, Fibocom will continue to leverage its 5G communication capabilities, platform adaptation capabilities, and supply chain management capabilities, working with global FWA, mobile broadband, and pan-IoT customers to create 5G terminal products with greater cost competitiveness and delivery certainty, accelerating the transition of thousands of industries from “Internet of Everything” to “Intelligent Connectivity of Everything.”
