The China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology and other relevant units, has been successfully held for eight consecutive sessions since 2018. It is the largest national professional competition in China in terms of the number of participating projects, the highest quality, and the greatest industry influence. Over the eight sessions, 6,007 projects have registered for the competition, with 726 projects winning first, second, and third prizes in the finals. A follow-up survey six months after the competition shows total financing exceeding 8 billion RMB. Some projects have subsequently received project funding from ministries, commissions, provinces, cities, and the military, as well as awards from other competitions. The competition has significantly enhanced the transformation of clinical and academic achievements and industrial innovation, and has also promoted the ecological construction of industrial parks and the clustering of project settlements, receiving unanimous praise from all parties.
The 9th (2026) China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition officially opens for registration on March 1, 2026. The relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:
I. Competition Organization
The competition, with the theme of “Innovation Source, Ecological Construction, Medical-Engineering Integration, Serving Clinical Needs”, is oriented towards practical demands, supports the transformation of clinical and academic achievements, and promotes the ecological construction of industrial parks and industrial clustering. The competition is coordinated and organized by the National Medical Device Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and the Medical Device Innovation Network. Local governments, industrial parks, and research institutes are welcome to co-host.
II. Registration Categories
Participating projects should register under the following categories:
1. In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Reagents
2. Analytical Instruments and Equipment
3. Injection, Infusion, Nursing, Protection, and Carrying Devices
4. Diagnostic, Therapeutic, and Surgical Instruments
5. Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Instruments and Consumables
6. Minimally Invasive Instruments and Equipment (excluding endoscopic and laparoscopic instruments)
7. Implantable and Interventional Products (including cardiac and peripheral, neurological, orthopedic, and others)
8. Other High-Value Medical Consumables
9. Small and Medium-Sized Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment
10. Large Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment (imaging, radiotherapy, etc.)
11. Emergency and Life Support Products (critical care, emergency, monitoring, respiratory anesthesia, dialysis, etc.)
12. Artificial Intelligence and Medical Robots
13. Medical Software and Digital Health
14. Wearable and Portable Products
15. Mobile and Telemedicine
16. Chronic Disease Management and Information Systems
17. Rehabilitation Equipment and Assistive Devices
18. Traditional Chinese Medicine Devices and Physiotherapy Products
19. Sports Health and Wellness
20. Infection Control and Disinfection Products
21. Others (products that cannot be classified or registered as medical devices, as well as materials, accessories, processes, etc.)
The above categories are registered under Creative Group, Startup Group, and Growth Group.
III. Project Grouping and Requirements
1. Project Grouping:
Creative Group: Projects in the concept validation or early R&D stage, with patent applications accepted or granted.
Startup Group: Projects with prototypes/samples, undergoing various inspections, tests/experiments, or submitted for registration, but not yet having obtained a medical device registration certificate.
Growth Group: Products that have obtained their first medical device registration certificate.
2. Project Requirements:
1. Participating projects must comply with relevant national laws, regulations, and policies, and must not infringe upon the intellectual property rights and legitimate interests of others. Participating individuals, teams, and enterprises are responsible for the compliance and authenticity of the registration information.
2. The medical device products involved in the participating projects must be innovative and clinically applicable, with certain social and market value.
3. Clinical doctors, nurses, medical engineers, etc., are welcome to participate or collaborate with others to register.
4. Overseas projects are welcome to register. Overseas projects are encouraged to participate in various category competitions and overseas special competitions in person. Online participation is possible if necessary. The organizing party will adjust the competition schedule as appropriate based on registration conditions and provide one-on-one services for overseas projects seeking financing and settlement in China.
5. Previous competition projects that have achieved significant new progress may also register.
6. No fees will be charged to participants throughout the entire competition process. To encourage participation in innovation, the local co-organizer will provide certain subsidies for accommodation, meals, and transportation for participating contestants based on specific circumstances during offline competitions.
IV. Competition Schedule
1. Registration
Participants can register on the official competition website (https://www.innomd.org/cmddec/) from now on. The registration deadline is June 30, 2026.
Registration is based on projects or individual products. Each enterprise or team is limited to registering up to 3 projects.
Cross-disciplinary (composite) projects are recommended to register for at least 2 related category competitions.
2. Preliminary Round
Projects confirmed after review will enter the preliminary round, which will be conducted through online evaluation. The judging panel will consist of authoritative technical experts, clinical experts, testing or review experts, and investment experts. The organizing party and the judging panel have the right to veto projects that do not meet the requirements for continued participation.
3. Category Competitions
The organizing party will appropriately set competition categories and sessions based on registration conditions. For projects participating in more than 2 category competitions, the organizing party will make reasonable arrangements based on the project and specific competition circumstances.
Category competitions will start from July, in the form of on-site roadshows. Specific times, locations, and schedules will be announced separately.
4. Special Competitions
To help projects secure financing and connect with industrial resources, the organizing party will collaborate with investment institutions/parks based on the category competitions, organizing special roadshow competitions focusing on hot areas, project sources, and business formats, such as Doctor Special Competition, Tumor Diagnosis and Treatment Device Special Competition, Home Medical Device Special Competition, Microsurgery Special Competition, University Technology Transfer Special Competition, AI+ Special Competition, etc. Participating projects can choose to participate based on actual circumstances. Specific formats, times, locations, and schedules for special competitions will be announced separately.
5. Finals
The finals will be held from September to October, in the form of on-site roadshows. Specific times, locations, and schedules will be announced separately.
V. Award Settings
Based on the number of registrations, each category competition, special competition, and the finals will have several first, second, third prizes, and excellence awards.
VI. Competition Rewards
Participating projects will receive the following rewards:
1. Priority access to investment from industry enterprises and investment institutions, as well as exposure opportunities in leading media.
2. Relevant rewards based on the situation of the local co-organizer and industrial support policies.
3. Priority recommendation for national and local related technology subsidy projects.
4. Projects entering various category competitions, special competitions, and the finals and conducting on-site roadshows will receive certain accommodation, meal, and transportation subsidies from the local co-organizer based on specific circumstances (specific standards will be implemented according to the notice and announcement of that session).
5. Face-to-face communication and one-on-one guidance with leading academicians on the judging panel and over 100 authoritative experts from regulatory and industry sectors.
6. Preferential entry into the alliance’s medical device innovation service bases (Suzhou, Tianjin, Hangzhou/Shaoxing, etc.), enjoying one-stop over 20 outsourced innovation services.
7. Access to special supporting policy support from various parks and innovation service institutions.
8. Facilitation of substantive cooperation between some participating projects and production and operation enterprises.
9. Selected projects will have exclusive interviews and reports published on media platforms such as the Medical Device Innovation Network and “China Medical Device Information”.
10. Free participation in high-level training, seminars, and resource matching activities organized by the organizing party.
VII. Competition Services
To help participating projects better connect with capital and various entrepreneurship service resources for rapid transformation and growth, the organizing party utilizes its own investment and contract manufacturing platforms, and collaborates with multiple investment and entrepreneurship service institutions in the industry, to continuously provide participating contestants with nearly 30 types of services before, during, and after the competition, including competition registration, social financing and project funding applications, product registration, park settlement, entrusted R&D and production, and also provides contestants with industry authoritative courses such as Digital Product Design Engineer, Medical Data and AI Application Engineer, and qualification and skills certificate training from the Education and Examination Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. At the category competitions and finals, experts from the National Medical Products Administration for testing and registration review will provide consultation and guidance, and multiple investment institutions, CRO companies, patent and design contract manufacturing platforms will also be present to provide services.
All units, individuals, or teams related to the medical device industry chain, including production, academia, research, medical, sales, capital, management, and services, are encouraged to actively promote and participate in the competition and related activities. Clinical medical engineers and overseas project teams are welcome to participate. Local governments, industrial parks, universities and research institutes, investment and entrepreneurship service institutions are welcome to discuss cooperation in co-hosting category competitions, special competitions, or training and consulting.
