This year marks McDonald’s China’s third appearance at the CISCE, partnering with core supply chain partners such as Beijing Capital Agribusiness Group, Sun Valley, McCain, Shunxinhui, and MBRF. Agriculture is the source of quality ingredients. Under the theme “Farm-Fresh Flavors: China’s McChain,” McDonald’s showcased how the upstream and downstream of China’s “McChain” transform a commitment to quality into every bite of farm-fresh goodness, embodying “farm-fresh ingredients, dedicated farmers, and deep agricultural heritage,” giving consumers confidence and value.

“Driven by our ‘three-legged stool’ business philosophy, we emphasize close collaboration among the brand, employees, and suppliers. These three pillars form a stable, long-term partnership. We adhere to a long-termist approach, continuously promoting regenerative agriculture concepts and practices,” said Phyllis Cheung, CEO of McDonald’s China. “The establishment of these 10 pilot units for regenerative agriculture has created a localized, replicable, and scalable pathway for implementation. Moving forward, we will collaborate with more suppliers and partners to jointly safeguard the freshness, natural quality, and safety of McDonald’s ingredients, while protecting the ecological environment for generations to come.”
Three Years of Deep Cultivation: The “McDonald’s China Regenerative Agriculture Plan” Transitions from Exploration to Large-Scale Implementation
Quality ingredients depend on quality agriculture. Over more than 30 years in China, McDonald’s and its supply chain partners have worked together to explore sustainable supply chain practices in agriculture. Building on this foundation, McDonald’s China launched the “McDonald’s China Regenerative Agriculture Plan” in 2023 with nine major suppliers. The plan focuses on five key areas: nature, soil, water, livestock, and farmers. In its first five-year plan, it implements four major actions to accelerate the systematic and large-scale promotion of regenerative agriculture concepts and practices, ensuring that both quality ingredients and nature can thrive sustainably. Over the past three years, these four actions have yielded significant results:
- Action 1: Promote and popularize the concept of McDonald’s China regenerative agriculture: Focusing on the two core supply chains of potatoes and white-feathered chickens, the plan has completed regenerative agriculture training for over 9,000 farm managers and agricultural technicians, effectively conveying sustainable agriculture concepts to frontline practitioners in the fields.
- Action 2: Drive pilot upgrades for McDonald’s China regenerative agriculture: Established 10 pilot units for regenerative agriculture, covering the five areas of nature, soil, water, livestock, and farmers, accumulating replicable and scalable practices to accelerate green agricultural development.
- Action 3: Promote the sustained implementation of McDonald’s China regenerative agriculture tailored to China’s agricultural realities: Achieved 100% crop rotation on potato-growing plots, exploring 2- to 3-year interval trials; extensively promote drip irrigation, accelerating the iteration of smarter, more water-efficient drip irrigation systems.
- Action 4: Build a collaborative ecosystem for McDonald’s China regenerative agriculture: Continue cooperation with China Agricultural University, think tanks, industry associations, and enterprises on regenerative agriculture topics. McDonald’s China, together with Yara and Syngenta, supports the implementation of the “Regenerative Agriculture Practice Evaluation Guide” project, fostering the exploration and promotion of regenerative agriculture in China.

“Farm-Fresh Flavors” Themed Restaurants: Bringing the Story of Quality Ingredients to Consumers
During the CISCE (June 22 to 26), McDonald’s is launching “Farm-Fresh Flavors” themed restaurants at five locations along Beijing’s Central Axis. As consumers stroll along the World Heritage site of Beijing’s Central Axis, they can immerse themselves through interactive check-ins, experiencing how McDonald’s and its suppliers inherit the traditional agricultural wisdom of the 24 solar terms, promote regenerative agriculture practices, and safeguard quality ingredients and the natural ecosystem.
In 1992, the Beijing McDonald’s Wangfujing restaurant officially opened, drawing crowds and becoming a city memory for a generation. Over more than three decades, Beijing McDonald’s has grown alongside the city, integrating into its streets and neighborhoods, becoming a beloved and trusted community partner. This time, Beijing McDonald’s, in collaboration with the Beijing Central Axis Conservation Foundation, leverages this urban axis that spans ancient and modern times to jointly create an immersive cultural experience platform, connecting delicious food with cultural heritage and uniting community neighbors. At this year’s CISCE, the Beijing Central Axis Conservation Foundation officially awarded McDonald’s Central Axis restaurants the “Beijing Central Axis Themed Restaurant” certificate, opening a new chapter bridging flavor and culture.
