Berlin, GermanyApril 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to the iconic Tempelhof Airport this weekend for Rounds 7 and 8 of the 2025/26 season. Twenty world-class drivers will once again race the GEN3 Evo cars on this track, as the all-electric single-seater championship returns to the German capital for the twelfth consecutive year.

Formula E Returns to Berlin Tempelhof Airport Track
With over a decade of racing history in Berlin, 20 drivers will strive to recreate the thrilling moments from the 20 previous races held in the German capital. This season, they return once again to the Tempelhof Airport track, facing a 2.345-kilometer layout featuring 15 corners.
Berlin is the longest-standing city on the Formula E calendar. Apart from Season 2 (where the German round was held near Alexanderplatz in the 2015/16 season), Tempelhof Field has been the consistent home of Formula E in Berlin.
The Tempelhof Airport track, composed of repeatedly patched concrete slabs, is notoriously bumpy, leading to higher tire wear for Hankook tires compared to conventional circuits. Simultaneously, the high grip demands greater energy management, making race strategies challenging but also producing some of the most exciting events on the calendar.
Chinese fans and viewers can watch the races on Sina Racing, BiliBili, Huya, CCTV Sports App, Yangshipin, Tencent Sports, Douyin, Youku Sports, and Guangdong Sports TV channel.

Driver Quotes Ahead of the Race
- Jaguar TCS Racing driver António Félix da Costa said: “For me, this has been an incredibly meaningful journey in racing. I am immensely proud of what our entire team has achieved together. Without everyone’s collective effort, consecutive victories wouldn’t be possible, and we are currently in such a positive, united atmosphere. Berlin has always been a city where I enjoy racing, and arriving here with this momentum adds to my excitement and anticipation. We are fully focused on the championship battle, and I am ready to fight for even better results.”
- Porsche driver Pascal Wehrlein said: “I am naturally very much looking forward to my home race in Berlin, and to having many German fans, my family, and friends at the track cheering me on. More importantly, we will be celebrating 75 years of Porsche motorsport in Berlin – with numerous historic Porsche race cars on display in the fan village and around the circuit. Therefore, we especially want to show our best performance at the Tempelhof track.”

20 Drivers to Continue Wheel-to-Wheel Battles in GEN3 Evo
Season 12: Season Recap So Far
The first five rounds of the 2025/26 season produced five different winners from four different teams, proving this remains one of the most competitive motorsport series today. However, Jaguar TCS Racing’s António Félix da Costa broke that pattern with a dominant victory in Madrid, securing back-to-back wins.
We started Season 12 in Brazil, where Jake Dennis converted pole position into a dominant victory, ending Andretti’s nearly two-year win drought. Next came Mexico City, where Nick Cassidy staged a historic victory, climbing from 13th to first place, putting the DS on the top step just two races into its single-seater debut.
Then came Miami, Formula E’s first visit to the Miami International Autodrome. Despite heavy rain, Jaguar’s Mitch Evans secured his 15th career win, moving him to the top of Formula E’s all-time win list.
The Jeddah double-header brought more drama: Pascal Wehrlein’s victory in Round 4 put him and Porsche at the top of the standings, while his former teammate António Félix da Costa won for Jaguar the next day – his first win after switching teams, making him the only driver to win for five different teams in Formula E.
The inaugural 2026 CUPRA Laval Madrid E-Prix was also won by António Félix da Costa, who felt the support of local fans and looked increasingly at home with his new Jaguar team. On the threshold of the Berlin weekend, home hero Wehrlein leads the standings with 83 points, thanks to podium finishes and consistent scoring. He is followed by Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara on 72 points, who is still chasing his first win of the year after several close calls.

2026 Formula E Berlin E-Prix to Take Place During May Day Holiday
Formula E History at Tempelhof Airport
The all-electric championship returns to its most-visited venue: the Tempelhof Airport street circuit. With over 20 races held in the German capital, Berlin is the only city to have appeared on every single Formula E calendar.
Apart from a brief stint at Alexanderplatz in Season 2, the former airport site has been a fixture every season, presenting unique challenges. The rough concrete surface, once used for giant passenger aircraft, accelerates tire wear, while complex energy management requirements make Berlin one of the most strategically demanding events on the calendar.
Over the years, 15 different winners have emerged here. Da Costa and Nick Cassidy lead the tally with three wins each. We have also witnessed several first-time winners here, including Felix Rosenqvist, Norman Nato, and Stoffel Vandoorne. Will we add a new name to this list this weekend?
GEN4 – A New Era for Motorsport
On April 21, at the Circuit Paul Ricard, the next-generation Formula E car was unveiled. The GEN4 car will continue development from this debut and will be delivered to teams and manufacturers for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship starting in the 2026/27 season. The GEN4 boasts a top speed exceeding 335 km/h, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in approximately 1.8 seconds, and 0-200 km/h in just 4.4 seconds (1.5 seconds faster than the previous generation); its power in race mode is 50% higher than the current GEN3 Evo car.
In qualifying mode, the GEN4’s average lap time will be 10 seconds faster than the GEN3 car, and it is the only single-seater equipped with permanent all-wheel drive. Maximum power in Attack Mode can reach 600 kW, a 71% increase over the GEN3 Evo’s base output, pushing the performance of electric racing to its limits.
As the only all-electric FIA World Championship, the GEN4 represents not only the pinnacle of motorsport innovation but also a testbed for future mobility. It continues the series’ “Race to Road” philosophy, with its 600 kW charging technology and efficient motor development providing key support for next-generation electric vehicle technology.
Beyond exceptional performance, sustainability remains a core pillar of GEN4 innovation. The GEN4 will be the world’s first 100% reusable race car, with at least 20% recycled materials in key components.
Its tires are made from 65% natural and recycled materials, and the battery contains no rare earth minerals. On a broader level, Formula E remains the first global sport to receive Net Zero Carbon Pathway certification from the British Standards Institution and the first racing series globally to achieve B Corp certification.
Home Heroes
The German round is also a major event for defending Team and Manufacturer World Champions, Porsche. The team, featuring German Season 9 World Champion Pascal Wehrlein, is also celebrating 75 years of Porsche motorsport this year. Standings leader Wehrlein has never won in Berlin but came close last year, finishing second during a weekend dominated by Jaguar. Will this be the weekend he finally achieves his dream?
Additionally, Maximilian Günther will seek to replicate his Season 6 victory here with DS Penske. The seven-time race winner has had a difficult start to the season, with a sixth-place finish in the São Paulo opener being his best result, but he hopes to feel the support of the home crowd this weekend.
Sébastien Buemi Celebrates 150th Race
After Formula E reached the significant milestone of 150 Grands Prix earlier this season in Mexico City, several of our veteran drivers are also celebrating this milestone in their careers.
First is Lucas di Grassi, who had 153 race starts before the start of this weekend’s double-header, followed by Jean-Éric Vergne (152) and António Félix da Costa (150) – the latter marking the occasion with a victory in Madrid.
Sébastien Buemi is the next driver to reach the 150-start milestone, having participated in the series since its inaugural race in Beijing in 2014. He is one of Formula E’s most successful drivers, winning the Season 2 Drivers’ Championship, while maintaining an exceptionally successful endurance racing career with Toyota and assisting the Red Bull team in the FIA Formula One World Championship.
The fourteen-time race winner stood on the podium earlier this season in Jeddah and recently won the HyperCar class at the WEC Imola round earlier this month.
