Abu Dhabi Department of Health Partners with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center to Advance Cancer Research and Personalized Prevention

Abu Dhabi, UAEMay 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi, together with the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (hereinafter referred to as Fred Hutch), a globally leading cancer research institution and home to three Nobel laureates.

By integrating Abu Dhabi’s unified clinical and genomic data infrastructure, sovereign AI capabilities, and controlled data environment with Fred Hutch’s globally renowned scientific system, the resulting collaboration will pave the way for shortening the distance between scientific discovery and patient benefit, serving the Abu Dhabi community and beyond.

In the anticipated collaboration, the parties will consider leveraging Abu Dhabi’s intelligent healthcare system and overlaying Fred Hutch’s world-class research capabilities onto the secure, high-quality real-world data foundation built by Abu Dhabi. This foundation includes Abu Dhabi’s pioneering liquid biopsy program launched last year—one of the first national-level programs of its kind globally. It also encompasses Abu Dhabi’s AI-based multi-cancer early detection efforts, as well as the world’s largest clinically integrated population genomics program, which has completed sequencing of nearly one million genomes.

During his visit to the center, His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH, stated: “Cancer is one of the most formidable health challenges of our time, and progress requires combining world-class science, large-scale population data, advanced AI, and cutting-edge research. In Abu Dhabi, we have built an AI-driven health system that prioritizes prevention over cure, delivering disease prevention at a population scale. Some of our cancer early detection rates are already among the highest in the world. Through this collaboration with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, we are committed to bringing medical breakthroughs to the people of Abu Dhabi and the wider region.”

Dr. Thomas Lynch Jr., President and Director of Fred Hutch Cancer Center and Raisbeck Endowed Chair, M.D., stated: “This MOU between Fred Hutch and the Abu Dhabi Department of Health underscores the immense synergy of our joint efforts to prevent and treat cancer. Both our organizations are deeply committed to scientific research and providing the highest level of cancer prevention, diagnosis, and care for our respective communities. We are also excited to combine our expertise, tools, and datasets to identify unique approaches in cancer care and research, thereby achieving our most ambitious goals.”
