ShanghaiJune 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — During MWC Shanghai 2026, the Intelligent Optical Network Industry Summit, themed “Empowering AI Evolution with Light, Reconstructing the Optical Future with AI,” was successfully held. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Information and Communication Technology Committee, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), global operators, and industry partners joined Huawei to discuss the development trends of optical networks in the new era of Token operations, sharing practical experiences in new services such as ultra-gigabit/10-gigabit packages and integrated computing-network services. At the summit, Huawei released the top ten innovative products and solutions for the AI-ON (AI-Optical Network), helping operators build an AI-centric all-optical target network and accelerate the comprehensive adoption of AI services.

Intelligent Optical Network Industry Summit Successfully Held
According to the “15th Five-Year Plan” outline, the planning and construction of the “six networks,” including the next-generation communication network and computing network, have been incorporated into national top-level deployment. In his opening remarks, Han Xia, Executive Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s Information and Communication Technology Committee, stated: “Low-latency, high-capacity, reliable, and intelligent optical networks are not only a key component of the next-generation communication network but also the foundational support for various new information and communication infrastructure. Accelerating the evolution of optical networks from basic ‘transmission pipelines’ to ‘network-intelligence integration’ is of great significance for building a new landscape for China’s optical network development.” Additionally, in October 2025, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) released the ION-2030 vision for next-generation optical network development, outlining the direction for intelligent optical networks. Ao Li, Vice President of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), explained: “Optical networks and AI achieve mutual empowerment. While efficiently supporting the universal application of computing power, intelligent optical networks leverage large models and intelligent agents to accelerate the leap toward high-level autonomous networks. China is upgrading from ‘gigabit普及’ to ’10-gigabit initiation,’ exploring ultra-gigabit broadband service development and actively improving broadband quality. Millisecond-level computing is moving from ‘system construction’ to ‘large-scale implementation,’ comprehensively strengthening the all-optical foundation supporting the digital economy.”
