“First Launch Assembly! The ‘Marine Life Rescue Team’ Sets Sail from Changfeng — Shanghai Changfeng Ocean World Launches a New Summer Parent-Child Science Experience”

ShanghaiJune 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Changfeng Ocean World, a theme park under Merlin Entertainments Group, an internationally renowned operator of entertainment attractions, has launched the “Sea Creature Rescue Squad” summer parent-child educational experience today, in deep collaboration with the Shanghai Oceanic Bureau, Putuo District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Changfeng New Village Subdistrict, and Changfeng Park. As the first debut of the SEA LIFE global “Sea Creature Rescue Squad” in China, this program leverages the venue’s comprehensive advantages in science education, nature conservation, and tourism. Through marine life observation, interactive tasks, and guardianship certification, it guides children to understand life and conservation through play. This “neighborhood aquarium,” rooted in Changfeng Park for years, is evolving from a window for urban families to learn about the ocean into a foundational space for children to learn about ocean guardianship and marine life education.

At the launch ceremony, six marine life representatives—seahorses, sharks, sea turtles, penguins, beluga whales, and rays—appeared as adorable plush toys. Through “ocean letters,” they brought topics such as animal growth, habitat environments, rescue and protection, and ecological balance to the scene. Centered on these “letters” from marine life, Teacher Tomato, beloved by children, drew on real cases like sea turtle rescue and release, beluga whale relocation to an Icelandic sanctuary, and the growth observation of the little penguin “Maomao,” making SEA LIFE’s global conservation philosophy of “Breeding, Rescue, Protection” more tangible and relatable through local practices at Changfeng Ocean World. As the six “letters” were answered one by one, the first “Sea Creature Rescue Squad” mission experience officially began.

From Marine Life to Daily Life: Unlocking a New Ocean Guardianship Science Experience

After receiving their exclusive mission cards, children transformed into members of the “Sea Creature Rescue Squad,” embarking on a unique marine life challenge. In “Seahorse Kingdom,” children can search for and identify different species of seahorses, learning about the impacts of overfishing, the marine pet trade, and habitat changes on seahorse survival. In the “Shark Tunnel,” they can observe and distinguish various shark species, understanding the crucial role sharks play in maintaining marine ecological balance.

The mission cards also extend ocean protection into daily life, from reducing plastic use and conserving water to using eco-friendly products and choosing sustainable diets, guiding children to understand actionable guardianship efforts within their reach. During the mission process, children will also encounter more marine life along the venue’s route, experiencing the richness and preciousness of the ocean world through firsthand observation. Upon completing all challenges and recording their answers, children receive an exclusive guardianship certification, becoming members of the SEA LIFE global “Sea Creature Rescue Squad” and allowing the ocean guardianship awareness sparked at Changfeng to continue through more life choices.

Integrating Science Education into Urban Ecological Development: Making Ocean Guardianship a Sustainable Public Practice

In the latest 2025 SEA LIFE Global “Making Waves for our Oceans” Conservation and Wildlife Rehabilitation Report, over 50 SEA LIFE aquariums worldwide implemented 104 conservation projects, rescued 683 animals, and removed over 9 tons of trash from global waters, continuously shouldering the responsibility of ocean protection through animal rescue, habitat restoration, environmental cleanup, and other forms. As a member of SEA LIFE and a national-level youth science education base, Shanghai Changfeng Ocean World has long utilized its venue resources for public education, consistently transforming professional marine knowledge into more experiential content. This “Sea Creature Rescue Squad” activity further integrates marine conservation topics into children’s “blue exploration,” turning “seeing the ocean” into an immersive process of “understanding and protecting the ocean.”

Notably, during World Oceans Day on June 8 this year, Shanghai Changfeng Ocean World hosted the “Suhe Glow • Changfeng Dream” marine science education event around the theme “From the ‘Half-Marathon Suhe’ to the ‘Blue Ocean,'” incorporating ecological restoration, science crafts, and industry dialogue into experiential marine science content. The event received strong support from relevant Putuo District units, with officials from the Putuo District Culture and Tourism Bureau, Putuo District Greenery and City Appearance Administration, Putuo District Education Bureau, Putuo District Science and Technology Commission, Changfeng New Village Subdistrict, and Wanli City Experimental Kindergarten in attendance. Leveraging the urban ecological space of Changfeng Park and the regional cultural tourism vitality carried by Putuo’s “Half-Marathon Suhe” cultural tourism IP matrix, Changfeng Ocean World continuously combines marine science education, ecological enlightenment, and cultural tourism co-construction, making the “neighborhood aquarium” not just a destination to get close to the ocean, but a crucial entry point for urban families to understand ecological protection and participate in ocean guardianship.

Wang Rui, China General Manager of Merlin Entertainments Short Breaks, stated: “Ocean protection is not something that can be accomplished with a single event or exhibit. Changfeng Ocean World aims to embed professional marine conservation into experiences children can personally undergo, and this ‘Sea Creature Rescue Squad’ experience is such an attempt. For us, the venue is not the endpoint of science education; it can also become an open classroom where schools, families, and communities participate together. In the future, we will continue to collaborate with Putuo District’s cultural tourism, education, and community resources, enabling more children to start with an experience of getting close to the ocean and develop a long-term concern for life and the environment.”
