Sanofi Debuts at the 28th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo
Shi Wang, President of Sanofi Greater China, stated: “The Expo is a vital window showcasing China’s technological innovation. Our consecutive participation reflects Sanofi’s commitment to addressing unmet patient needs through scientific innovation. China is one of Sanofi’s key strategic markets globally. Facing new opportunities in the ’15th Five-Year Plan’ period, we will further deepen local cooperation and industrial布局, accelerate the transformation of innovation outcomes, and bring more scientific miracles to Chinese patients faster, contributing to the high-quality development of China’s biopharmaceutical industry.”
Science Leading, Accelerating Access to Innovation
Currently, Sanofi has introduced over 60 innovative drugs and vaccines to China, covering seven of the top ten leading causes of death in the country, offering more breakthrough treatment options for patients with high-incidence local diseases. Leveraging its global innovation strength and R&D pipeline, Sanofi has continued to accelerate the introduction of innovations over the past year, with several new drugs and new indications receiving approval.
At this year’s Expo, Sanofi highlighted nine representative achievements spanning multiple disease areas, including immunology, respiratory, cardiovascular metabolism, transplantation, oncology, and rare diseases. These include innovative drugs that achieved “global first launches” in China and key products with multiple approved indications domestically.
This concentrated showcase of innovations not only reflects Sanofi’s robust innovation capability but also fully demonstrates its patient-first approach, driving the benefits of innovation to more patients at “China speed.”
Deepening Roots in China, Strengthening Supply Network Resilience
Over more than 40 years in China, Sanofi has continuously increased local investment, building a full industry chain covering R&D, manufacturing, and commercial operations, establishing itself as a key participant and driver of China’s biopharmaceutical industry.
Earlier this year, construction officially began on the Beijing insulin active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production base in Yizhuang, with key building structures expected to take shape within the year. With a total investment of €1 billion, this project is not only Sanofi’s largest single investment in China but also the first time a multinational pharmaceutical company has established a biopharmaceutical API production base in the country.
Once completed, the base will synergize with existing production facilities in Beijing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and other locations, further refining the integrated production layout from API to finished products, enhancing local supply capacity, and more efficiently meeting the needs of Chinese patients.
Collaborative Innovation, Expanding the Sci-Tech Ecosystem Layout
The Chinese market is a crucial pillar of Sanofi’s global strategy and a key link in its innovation system. Leveraging its world-leading R&D capabilities and resource network, Sanofi is deeply integrating into China’s pharmaceutical innovation ecosystem with an open and collaborative approach, accelerating the transformation of innovation outcomes and improving healthcare accessibility, thereby supporting the high-quality development of the biopharmaceutical industry.
While continuously enhancing the resilience of its local supply chain, Sanofi is also steadily improving its innovation and operational capabilities in China. In March this year, the Shanghai R&D Center completed its upgrade, and the Chengdu Innovation and Operations Center was put into use, further solidifying Sanofi’s R&D and operational foundation in China. At the same time, Sanofi is actively exploring the application of AI technology in R&D and operations to improve production efficiency, optimize resource allocation, and inject new momentum into the pharmaceutical sci-tech innovation ecosystem.
Having reached the significant milestone of 30 years of local production in China, Sanofi takes this as a new starting point to drive development through innovation, deepen synergistic progress with China’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, and work with all parties to build a sustainable and healthy future.
