Namche Bazaar, NepalJune 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — BLACKYAK, a global outdoor brand with deep ties to the Himalayan mountain range, recently held a special summit in Namche Bazaar, Nepal. Widely regarded as the gateway to Mount Everest and home to many Sherpas, Namche Bazaar served as the venue for this summit, which aimed to raise awareness of the increasingly severe climate crisis in the Himalayan region and explore practical pathways for protecting mountain environments and promoting sustainable development.
On June 8, BYN BLACKYAK Group, led by Chairman Kang Tae-sun, announced that BLACKYAK had hosted the “2026 Himalayan Climate Charter: Namche Summit” in Namche Bazaar, Nepal, on June 1 local time. The event was co-organized by BLACKYAK in partnership with the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality.
The “Himalayan Climate Charter,” initiated by BLACKYAK in Kathmandu in 2025, is the world’s first climate action initiative centered on mountain regions. The initiative posits that the Himalayas are not only a mountaineering destination but also a frontline zone of the global climate crisis and a natural heritage requiring collective protection from the international community. It aims to unite global efforts to drive concrete actions for mountain ecosystem conservation.
Currently, global warming is intensifying ecological pressures in the Himalayas, with issues such as reduced snowfall, farmland flooding, and waste left behind by mountaineering activities becoming increasingly prominent, making mountain protection an urgent priority. To address these challenges, BLACKYAK launched the “Himalayan Climate Charter” last year, outlining several core commitments, including calling for global climate action, conducting Himalayan clean-up operations, strengthening technology and community collaboration, enhancing environmental information transparency, amplifying the voices of those on the climate crisis front lines, and deepening global cooperation and solidarity. Multiple companies and organizations have also joined the initiative as co-signatories.
This year’s summit reaffirmed the core values and practical significance of the “Himalayan Climate Charter” and facilitated in-depth discussions on translating the initiative’s principles into concrete actions. Moving the venue from Kathmandu to Namche Bazaar, located at an altitude of 3,440 meters, further demonstrated the participants’ firm resolve to confront the climate crisis on-site and transform consensus into action.
Starting next year, BLACKYAK plans to launch a series of action-oriented projects focused on environmental clean-up and ecological restoration in the Himalayan region, driving the initiative from a “declaration” to “practice.” To support these projects, the company will further deepen cooperation with local organizations and communities, steadily advancing more direct and sustainable ecological protection efforts in the Himalayas.
BLACKYAK Chairman Kang Tae-sun stated: “In 2024, the village of Thame was severely damaged by a glacial lake outburst flood, clearly demonstrating that the climate crisis in the Himalayas has already threatened the lives of local residents. We can no longer view the Himalayan climate crisis as a distant issue but rather as a challenge that requires all of humanity to think about and address together.”
He added: “BLACKYAK will go beyond discussions and declarations, continuing to expand practical support and international collaboration that can truly make a difference in the Himalayas.”
Additionally, BLACKYAK recently released its first-ever sustainability report, the “BYN BLACKYAK Responsibility Report 2025.” The report outlines the company’s various practices related to mountain and nature conservation, including the “Himalayan Climate Charter,” sponsorship of the ICEFALL DOCTORS, and eco-friendly clean-up trekking activities. It also highlights the contributions of the BLACKYAK Alpine Club (BAC) in promoting outdoor culture and advocating for responsible trekking principles.
The report further details the company’s efforts to drive high-performance technological innovation through global R&D capabilities, develop sustainable products based on resource circulation principles, and build a circular economy model covering the entire product lifecycle from production to disposal, aiming to create environmental value throughout the product lifecycle.
Through this report, BLACKYAK further conveys its brand philosophy and sense of responsibility: nature is a precious legacy for future generations, worthy of proper stewardship.
