ChangzhouJune 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Recently, the DHL Express Changzhou Service Center officially obtained the right-of-way and operating license for autonomous vehicles, and has commenced regular operations. This project has been successfully selected as one of the first batch of commercial demonstration projects for autonomous driving equipment by the Changzhou Municipal Government, marking another milestone for DHL in the implementation of smart logistics scenarios and innovation in last-mile transportation capacity.
Tian Haitian, General Manager of DHL Express Jiangsu Region, stated: “The deployment of autonomous vehicles in Changzhou is another important practice in DHL’s regular smart logistics operations. We leverage autonomous driving technology to precisely address customer pain points, achieving cost reduction and efficiency improvement. We will continue to explore innovative scenarios and business models for smart logistics, driving service evolution through technology to create greater value for our customers.”
The autonomous vehicle put into operation this time is a Z5 model L4-level autonomous driving logistics vehicle developed by Jishi Intelligent Technology (Suzhou), with a load capacity of 1 ton, specifically serving a customer in the display equipment industry. This customer has long faced business needs for later cut-off times, and due to its relatively remote geographical location, conventional self-operated transportation capacity is difficult to cover. In the past, it relied on third-party transportation resources as a supplement, resulting in significant cost and stability pressures.
The autonomous vehicle operates daily on a fixed route between the DHL Express Changzhou Service Center and the customer’s facility, covering a one-way distance of 38 kilometers with a travel time of approximately 1.5 hours. Verified through trial operations, the deployment of the autonomous vehicle not only effectively meets the customer’s demand for later cut-off times but also achieves significant optimization of transportation costs through compliant and stable capacity services, providing solid support for the customer’s cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
During the project’s progress, the DHL Express Changzhou Service Center, in collaboration with the supplier, conducted multiple rounds of technical assessments and route tests, repeatedly optimizing the autonomous vehicle’s operation plan and safety system. With strong support from the local competent authorities, the project ultimately obtained right-of-way approval, ensuring the compliant on-road operation of the autonomous driving equipment.
