Lan Zhenzhen, President of Public Affairs for L’Oréal North Asia and China, vividly explained the company’s exhibition concept using the “Three Action Rules”: “As the trend of nationwide fitness deepens, practicing sustainability is like sticking to a workout routine—it’s not only about making sustainability fun and igniting ‘inspiration,’ but also about collaborating with more partners in the ecosystem for win-win outcomes, fostering ‘collaboration.’ Moreover, it requires continuous innovation across all links of the value chain to drive ‘full-chain’ action. We hope that every moment of beauty that inspires people can translate into actions that protect the planet!”

Igniting “Inspiration”: L’Oréal Continuously Drives Consensus on Sustainable Consumption
L’Oréal has always been consumer-centric, continuously meeting consumers’ pursuit of “beauty” while striving to lead sustainable consumption trends, ensuring that every moment of “beauty” that inspires consumers becomes an action to protect the planet.
In 2025, L’Oréal launched the group’s first cross-brand, cross-category, cross-channel global initiative, “Act for Beauty.” This year, the initiative has been upgraded, with 18 brands and 28 products participating. In China, L’Oréal has introduced refill products from over 10 brands, covering four categories: skincare, makeup, haircare, and fragrance, offering consumers diverse sustainable product choices. Against this backdrop, at this year’s Carbon Neutrality Expo, L’Oréal used refill cores as a starting point, employing a series of fun, youthful, and highly interactive methods to engage consumers’ sustainable mindset.
Upon entering L’Oréal’s booth, visitors are greeted by a giant poster of refill cores. They can generate their own refill core check-in video at a 360-degree rotating photo booth, turning green choices into a shareable life ritual. After the booth opening ceremony, L’Oréal released the “Irresistibly ‘Core’ Action: 2026 Refill Core Consumption Trend Insights.” The report shows that while consumers have a high level of recognition for sustainability concepts, there is a “Say-do Gap” in actual behavior. To address the challenges and opportunities revealed by this insight, a “Irresistibly ‘Core’ Action” sustainable consumption salon was held that same day. Co-hosted by L’Oréal China and the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Foundation, and co-organized by Shanghai International Exhibition Management Co., Ltd., the salon was moderated by Tang Jiansheng, Chairman of the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Foundation. Four cross-sector youth guests—designer and Antarctic Ambassador Wang Yuheng, stand-up comedian Sun Shuhu, veteran beauty blogger Xiaomanmanxiao, and Zhang Wei, Editor-in-Chief of 36Kr’s Houlang Research Institute and Chaosheng TIDE—along with Zhao Ping, Yan Jiangying, Zhao Kai, and Lan Zhenzhen, formed two groups. Using refill cores as a starting point, they engaged in a relaxed and open exchange of ideas, exploring paths to sustainable consumption and living.
Fostering “Collaboration”: Achieving Win-Win Outcomes with More Partners in Sustainability
When consumer inspiration coalesces into consensus, true transformation requires ecosystem-wide promotion, using diverse collaboration models to co-create a resilient and vibrant sustainable ecosystem, thereby building a better future.
At the opening ceremony, L’Oréal and Ant Group jointly launched the “Act for Beauty” Sustainable Consumption and Green Living Declaration. Through three initiatives—adding green labels to L’Oréal products that meet sustainability standards, launching the “Inspiration Forest,” and establishing long-term ecological restoration projects—the two parties aim to turn every green choice by consumers into tangible protection for the planet’s environment, making outcomes visible, tangible, and sustainable.

Beyond green interactions with consumers, L’Oréal also emphasizes collaborative carbon reduction across the industry chain. On the industry side, L’Oréal awarded the “Tomorrow’s Partner” award to outstanding carbon-reducing suppliers for the fourth consecutive year. The six winning companies (Rokin Logistics, Qiaxiang Packaging, Bloomage Biotechnology, Kingfa Technology, Saint-Gobain Glass, and Jisuo Industrial) are driving the entire industry chain toward accelerated circular economy upgrades through practices in green raw materials, sustainable packaging, low-carbon logistics, and recycled materials. The “Tomorrow’s Partner” ecosystem alliance, launched in 2020, has added new members, aiming to build an open, collaborative, and win-win green innovation ecosystem. Additionally, in 2025, L’Oréal Group launched the global sustainable innovation accelerator “L’AcceleratOR,” focusing on seven key areas including low-carbon and climate-smart solutions, circularity and resource management, and continuously working with startups to fill green technology gaps in the beauty industry. This project is also progressing steadily, continuously empowering global green technology breakthroughs.

Driving “Full-Chain”: Practicing Green Innovation Throughout the Product Lifecycle
From inspiration to action, L’Oréal continuously self-iterates through innovation to fulfill its sustainability commitments. At the booth, L’Oréal presented a complete green innovation chain: from green science in R&D at the source, to 3R design in product packaging, to low-carbon upgrades in transportation, and finally to recycling and repurposing after use.
At the source, green science is L’Oréal’s foundational engine for sustainability. 67% of L’Oréal’s raw material ingredients are derived from nature, and 800 ingredients come from green chemistry and eco-extraction processes. The booth showcased Osmobloom™, an industry-first breakthrough sustainable fragrance ingredient that achieves five major breakthroughs: “no water consumption, no heating, no solvent use, low energy consumption, and reusable flowers,” vividly embodying the concept of “taking from nature and protecting nature even more.”
Moving downstream along the product lifecycle, from packaging to transportation, L’Oréal fulfills its low-carbon and environmental commitments at “every kilometer” of the journey. Through the 3R design path (Reduce, Replace, Recycle), plastic is reduced at the source. Visitors can use the fun “Flip and Learn” interactive installation at the booth to quickly understand the plastic-reduction technology highlights of different products. In transportation, the carbon-negative anti-shock bubble wrap developed in collaboration with Ruiwei New Materials, a winner of the BIG BANG Beauty Tech Co-creation Program, reduces carbon emissions by approximately 700 tons annually. Sustainable gift boxes have been rolled out across multiple brands such as Lancôme and Kiehl’s, using lightweight, high-strength corrugated paper instead of traditional gray board and shortening the lid height, achieving an average carbon reduction of 30%. All DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) shipping boxes use FSC-certified paper.
When products are used up, L’Oréal gives them a second life. L’Oréal, in partnership with Aihuishou (AtRenew), has built a smart empty bottle recycling network covering 38 cities nationwide, with a cumulative 660,000 participants in beauty empty bottle recycling, totaling approximately 440 tons of recycled materials, which are finely sorted and enter the recycling loop. Additionally, products that cannot be sold are given new purposes: powdery contents like foundation and eyeshadow can be turned into eco-bricks, lipstick paste can be transformed into craft wax, and cream and lotion can have effective ingredients extracted to make industrial cleaners. The eco-friendly bench at the booth is made from recycled empty bottle materials, and the recycled bench will be donated as public facilities. L’Oréal is committed to turning the end of every “empty bottle” into the starting point of the next green life.
Beauty sparks inspiration—it’s where the heart leads; acting for the planet—it’s a persistent practice. From exploring new empty bottle recycling models with Aihuishou in 2024, to launching the first beauty sustainable consumption incentive plan with JD.com in 2025, to collaborating with Ant Group this year to embed sustainable consumption into national-level green living scenarios, L’Oréal is writing a sustainable path from heartfelt intention to effective action with a “full attendance” attitude. When every choice carries goodwill toward the planet, sustainability is no longer a distant goal but a daily reality we collectively achieve. L’Oréal is willing to walk side by side with every “Tomorrow’s Partner,” keeping inspiration alive and action relentless, to create beauty that moves the world!
