Piscataway, New JerseyApril 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — IEEE, the world’s largest professional technical organization with over 500,000 members dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, held its 2026 IEEE Honors Ceremony on April 24 in New York City, honoring leading global technology experts, engineers, researchers, and innovators.
This annual event is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious celebrations in engineering and technology, honoring highly respected innovators whose groundbreaking achievements in computing, communications, artificial intelligence, power and energy, robotics, and other fields are shaping the future of how the world lives, works, and connects.
Mary Ellen Randall, 2026 IEEE President, said: “The IEEE Honors Ceremony recognizes individuals of exceptional achievement whose work continues to push the boundaries of technology serving humanity. This year’s recipients demonstrate how engineering and technology drive meaningful progress across industries worldwide and inspire the next generation to create their own future.”
Paving the Way for the Next Generation
The evening’s event culminated with the presentation of IEEE’s highest honor—the IEEE Medal of Honor. The award was presented to NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang, in recognition of his pioneering leadership in accelerated computing and artificial intelligence. He donated the entire prize amount, which was further matched by the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Foundation, to support new graduate scholarships and the IEEE TryEngineering STEM program.
NVIDIA co-founder Chris A. Malachowsky also received the 2026 IEEE Robert N. Noyce Medal for his pioneering contributions to parallel computing architecture and leadership in semiconductor design. Malachowsky likewise donated his prize to IEEE TryEngineering to support programs that introduce engineering to school-age children.
The Intersection of Technology and Humanity
This grand gathering brought together talent from the technology field while also highlighting IEEE’s unique role in integrating different disciplines and perspectives to drive breakthrough innovation and address global challenges. This year’s ceremony, themed “Intersections,” premiered a commissioned data narrative film created by information designer Giorgia Lupi and her team at Pentagram, designed to present the shared paths and collaborative relationships connecting the 2026 award recipients.
The IEEE Awards program, established over a century ago, recognizes individuals and teams who advance technology and improve human conditions through innovation. The program includes the IEEE Medal of Honor, as well as various medals and technical awards spanning engineering, computing, and technology fields.
