The exhibition opened on May 30, transforming 20 years of research from the Tara Ocean Foundation into a journey across ten zones, traversing coral reefs, the Arctic frontier, and microscopic ocean ecosystems.
SingaporeJune 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Science Centre Singapore launched on May 30 the “One Blue Ocean: Every Action Creates a Ripple” exhibition, marking the global premiere of this new immersive marine science exhibition.
At a time when ocean health, climate change, and biodiversity loss are among the most pressing challenges, this exhibition presents decades of accumulated real-world ocean science to the public for the first time.
As an island nation deeply connected to the ocean through trade, climate, and biodiversity, Singapore is a natural home for this global premiere.
The exhibition is made possible through a tripartite collaboration, integrating scientific rigor, immersive storytelling, and public engagement. The Tara Ocean Foundation, a French non-profit organization collaborating with leading global research institutions, provides the scientific credibility; while experience studio Ride FX transforms this science into captivating immersive experiences.
The exhibition encompasses 360-degree panoramic projections, free-roaming virtual reality, spatial soundscapes, and interactive installations, guiding audiences from Arctic ice fields and coral reefs into the bioluminescent ocean depths, the microscopic living world, ocean currents, and Singapore’s local marine ecosystems. It demonstrates how these systems are interconnected and how even the smallest action on land or at sea can create ripples across global oceans, coastlines, and communities.
The “One Blue Ocean: Every Action Creates a Ripple” exhibition embodies the Science Centre Singapore’s ongoing commitment to making science more accessible, experiential, and relevant to daily life. Ms. Tan Wen Si, Director of the Science Centre Singapore, stated: “As an island nation, Singaporeans have always lived alongside the sea, but how often do we truly think about what the ocean means for our survival, climate, and future?
This exhibition is designed to reveal precisely that. We hope every visitor, regardless of age or background, leaves with a profound sense of connection to the ocean and the belief that their actions—no matter how small—create ripples that extend far beyond what the eye can see.
To make this exhibition more accessible to Singaporeans, for every ticket sold, SGD 1 will be allocated to fund free visits for underprivileged groups to the ‘One Blue Ocean’ exhibition.”
What Visitors Will Experience
This exhibition is a 60 to 100-minute self-guided journey, exploring the ocean’s hidden ecosystems, scientific discoveries, and interconnected systems.
Exhibition highlights include “The Seven Wonders of the Ocean”—a 360-degree projection enveloping audiences in the deep sea, coral reefs, whale migrations, and bioluminescent marine life; “Ocean Symphony”—where visitors can listen to authentic ocean sounds blending above-water and underwater recordings; and “Tara Polar Station”—a replica of a real floating Arctic observation station, offering a glimpse into life and research in extreme environments.
Making Every Action Create a Ripple
Hands-on interactive installations bring science to life. In “Ocean Currents: The Never-Ending Flow,” visitors can trace the thousand-year journey of global ocean currents. In “Colors of the Ocean: Coral Beds Under Pressure,” a sliding mechanism reveals how coral reefs shift from vibrant to gray under environmental stress. “Micro Life: The Superheroes of the Ocean” introduces six tiny yet vital organisms that help sustain ocean vitality.
Myriam Thomas, Director of the Tara Ocean Foundation, stated: “Each expedition of the schooner Tara and the Tara Polar Station is an opportunity to share exciting discoveries with the public. The ‘One Blue Ocean’ exhibition goes a step further, creating new ways to reach new audiences and make ocean science part of our shared culture.”
She added: “Science, adventure, curiosity, and dialogue among citizens—these are excellent ways to tell this story and build genuine connections around the ocean.”
Bringing Ocean Stories Home to Singapore
To bring the story closer to local audiences, the “Tides of the Little Red Dot” zone explores Singapore’s marine biodiversity and conservation efforts through authentic specimens and insights from researchers and volunteers at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.
For deeper exploration, the “Blue Mystery” free-roaming virtual reality add-on experience takes visitors through kelp forests, mangroves, and coral reefs, highlighting how these ecosystems support climate regulation and carbon storage.
The sensory experience extends beyond sight and sound. Developed in collaboration with Givaudan, the exhibition introduces ocean scents into the gallery, elevating the immersive experience into a visceral feeling.
Elia Vermander, Executive Producer at Ride FX, stated: “Each environment offers visitors a different way to experience ocean science through space, sound, and interaction. Whether audiences are surrounded by 360-degree seascapes, listening to hidden ocean soundscapes, or navigating between ecosystems in virtual reality, the message remains consistent: what happens in one part of the ocean has impacts far beyond our imagination.”

Appendix: Exhibition Zones
The “One Blue Ocean: Every Action Creates a Ripple” exhibition comprises ten zones.
1. Hall: Life Theatre, Coloring Animation, and AI Photo Booth
Visitors enter the exhibition through images of marine life projected onto a tall curved screen, setting the stage for the experience. The hall features a coloring animation station where younger visitors can color marine creatures and watch them “come to life” on a 3-meter-high projection panel; plus four AI photo booths that transform visitors into creatures of Atlantis or deep-sea explorers.
2. Tides of the Little Red Dot
A dedicated zone that brings the exhibition’s global research back to Singapore, exploring local marine biodiversity, environmental threats, and stories of hope from the community. The “Tides of the Little Red Dot” zone features specimens from the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, along with insights from researchers, students, and “Friends of the Marine Park” volunteers, combining science with creativity through hands-on origami activities, allowing visitors to learn about the ocean around them and discover practical ways to protect marine life.
3. Colors of the Ocean: Coral Beds Under Pressure
Based on ongoing coral reef research by the Tara Ocean Foundation, this zone reveals the vibrant beauty of coral systems and the threats they face. Through a manual sliding mechanism, visitors can control the health state of a grayscale seascape: sliding to the right illuminates the coral reef with vibrant colors; sliding to the left fades it to gray, visually demonstrating the delicate balance of coral survival—involving concepts of stability, resilience, and resistance.
4. Micro Life: The Superheroes of the Ocean
The Tara Ocean Foundation has identified six microscopic “superheroes,” each playing a vital role in ocean health. Visitors can explore a gallery of motion-sensing screens to learn about each organism’s function, culminating in the “Microplankton Kingdom”—an interactive platform for deeper exploration of these invisible life forms.
5. Ocean Currents: The Never-Ending Flow
A single drop of water may take nearly a thousand years to travel the globe. Visitors turn an interactive wheel to initiate this process, transforming a static map into an animated “global conveyor belt” with narration. Touchscreens trace a single drop’s thousand-year journey, revealing the profound impact of ocean currents on life on Earth.
6. Ocean Symphony: An Immersive Soundscape
In this soundproofed space, visitors can settle onto cushions and benches in a dim blue-lit atmosphere. The centerpiece is a large wooden mixing console inspired by vintage recording studios. By adjusting backlit sliders, visitors can create their own soundscape, blending above-water sounds like sailboat slaps and strong winds with underwater recordings—such as whale songs and Arctic ice sounds—captured by professional hydrophones on the Tara.
7. Ocean Stories: Myths and Legends from Around the World
Directional speakers broadcast legendary tales, while shadow puppetry projected onto walls brings myths from around the world to life. Overlooking the space is a giant Kraken, its tentacles descending from the ceiling, with walls covered in illustrations and story fragments, and panels hiding miniature worlds.
8. Tara Polar Station: Arctic Expedition
A replica of a real floating Arctic observation station stands in the center of a pure white open space. Inside this dome-shaped structure, eight digital windows display a changing horizon through three immersive loop modes. Visitors can experience life in the ice, the pulse of scientific discovery (from ice core secrets to the invisible dance of plankton), and the poetry of the polar cycle, surrounded by the sounds of cracking ice and howling wind.
