MunichJune 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Munich District Court I (Landgericht München I) ruled on June 18 local time in two further patent infringement cases between Infineon Technologies and Innoscience involving gallium nitride (GaN) technology (based on one patent and one utility model, respectively), both in favor of Infineon.
The case concerns the unauthorized use of Infineon’s patented GaN technology by the Chinese company Innoscience. According to the ruling, the court prohibits Innoscience from manufacturing, selling, and promoting additional infringing products within Germany. Furthermore, the court ordered Innoscience to pay damages to Infineon.
This ruling marks the third and fourth defeats for Innoscience in the related series of lawsuits, with each decision finding that Innoscience’s products infringe on Infineon’s patents. Previously, courts and regulatory bodies in Germany and the United States had repeatedly ruled that Innoscience’s products violated Infineon’s intellectual property. This includes a preliminary ruling in Germany on August 1, 2025, and a decision by the full U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on May 7, 2026, finding that Innoscience infringed on one of Infineon’s patents in GaN technology. Currently, infringement proceedings concerning other Infineon patents continue in both the U.S. and Germany.
Gallium nitride plays a key role in enabling high-performance, high-efficiency power systems, widely used in areas such as renewable energy systems, data centers, industrial automation, and electric vehicles (EVs).
Johannes Schoiswohl, Senior Vice President and Head of the GaN Systems Business Line at Infineon Technologies, stated: “This ruling fully demonstrates the value of our patent portfolio in the GaN field and once again underscores our commitment to resolutely defending our intellectual property and maintaining fair competition in the market.”
Infineon continues to solidify its position as a leading vertically integrated manufacturer (IDM) in the GaN market, boasting the industry’s broadest intellectual property portfolio (covering approximately 450 GaN patent families). Infineon remains dedicated to driving innovation and semiconductor technology advancements to address the global key challenges of decarbonization and digital transformation.
