A new category of water monitoring, replacing multi-component station setups with a single compact device, reducing power consumption, and deploying in minutes
Aachen, GermanyMay 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — KISTERS today announced the launch of the HyQuant Edge, an all-in-one hydrological monitoring station powered by KIPTEC (KISTERS Integrated Platform Technology for Embedded Connectivity). This is the first hydrological solution to integrate radar measurement, data logging, edge processing, transmission, and cloud connectivity into a single compact device, eliminating the multi-component station architecture that the industry has adhered to for decades.

Compact HyQuant Edge monitoring station using radar technology to simultaneously measure water level and surface velocity
This launch addresses structural challenges in quantitative hydrological monitoring. While devices in other industries have evolved toward smaller, smarter, and more autonomous designs, the hydrological sector has remained stagnant, sometimes leading to high deployment costs and practical difficulties in remote stations.
“Traditional monitoring stations have always revolved around data acquisition and transmission. This requires assembling multiple components on-site, with no intelligent layer in between. KISTERS designed the HyQuant Edge to change that.” — Klaas Schulze Dieckhoff, Global Head of R&D at KISTERS
HyQuant Edge offers a fundamentally different solution: a self-contained adaptive system that integrates measurement, processing, and communication functions. This enables teams to deploy more monitoring stations with less infrastructure and lower per-station costs.
It is ideal for remote areas, temporary deployments, emergency deployments, and network densification scenarios, as well as permanent monitoring stations with limited infrastructure.
HyQuant Edge workstations are available in four versions — Water Level (L), Surface Velocity (V), Combined Water Level and Velocity (L+V), and Discharge (Q). The L, V, and L+V versions can be directly upgraded to the Q version via software, without requiring any hardware replacement.
The station is designed with security in mind and automatically connects to the cloud. It saves power through event-driven adaptive logging and maintains data integrity during connectivity interruptions via store-and-forward functionality. Manufactured in Germany, the station supports LTE-Cat-M1/NB-IoT and integrates with existing monitoring platforms through open standards.
“Due to constrained deployment conditions, there have always been numerous locations worth monitoring that remain uncovered. The HyQuant Edge is a choice that can adapt to existing infrastructure and budget limitations — especially in network densification.” — Dr. Anton Felder, Global Director of HydroMet at KISTERS
