News Release: ICANN86 Policy Forum Brings Global Internet Community Together in Seville

BrusselsMay 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will hold its 86th public meeting, the ICANN86 Policy Forum, from June 8 to 11, 2026, at the FIBES Conference and Exhibition Centre in Seville, Spain.

Hosted by Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, the ICANN86 meeting will bring together representatives from governments, civil society, the business community, and the technical community to discuss policy, technical, and governance issues that facilitate the cross-border operation of the internet.

ICANN coordinates the key technical systems critical to the global operation of the internet, including the Domain Name System (DNS) and Internet Protocol addresses. ICANN86, the organization’s mid-year meeting, will focus on the community’s ongoing work in areas such as DNS abuse mitigation, domain registration data access, DNS security and resilience, Universal Acceptance, Internationalized Domain Names, and the governance of systems supporting global internet number resource coordination.

While these topics are technical in nature, they have a profound impact on the internet and its 6 billion users. They determine how the internet remains secure and stable, how abuse is addressed, how multilingual access is expanded, and how the internet continues to operate as a unified, globally interoperable system.

“The ICANN86 meeting takes place at a time of growing attention to how the internet is coordinated and how key technical systems function across borders,” said Kurtis Lindqvist, ICANN President and CEO. “This makes ICANN’s consensus-based, multistakeholder model particularly important. In Seville, community members will continue working through relevant processes on technical and policy issues within ICANN’s remit to help maintain a stable, secure, and globally interoperable internet.”

During ICANN86, ICANN’s supporting organizations and advisory committees will continue to develop policies and provide advice on issues within ICANN’s scope. ICANN will also engage students and young professionals through the NextGen@ICANN and ICANN Fellowship programs. Notable sessions include the Governmental Advisory Committee’s opening plenary, a DNS Security Extensions and Security Workshop, and a Women in DNS session.

“Spain is delighted to welcome ICANN and its community members to Seville for the ICANN86 public meeting,” said María González Veracruz, Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence at Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service. “We are proud to host this global gathering and to discuss the coordination of the systems that help the internet function and keep people connected.”

Following the 2018 meeting in Barcelona, ICANN86 will be ICANN’s second public meeting held in Spain.

The meeting will adopt a hybrid format, offering both in-person and remote participation opportunities. On-site registration is open until Sunday, June 7, 2026. Remote registration will remain open until the conclusion of the meeting.
