SANY Group Expands Global Smart Equipment Portfolio with Electrification, Unmanned Solutions, and AI-Powered Innovations

ShanghaiMay 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — SANY Group’s 1,000th electric excavator has officially rolled off the production line, marking a significant step in the industry’s transition to electrification. Its 5G remote-controlled excavators have achieved commercial deployment, unmanned roller fleets are in operation, and integrated intelligent solutions for ports and mines have been launched. With an annual R&D investment exceeding 6 billion RMB, SANY is accelerating its transformation from a traditional manufacturer into a company centered on robotics and empowered by AI.

Meet SANY’s 5G Remote-controlled Excavator

For SANY, equipment upgrades are not just about changing power sources, but also about advancing electrification and intelligence. Electrification brings lower emissions, higher efficiency, and reduced operating costs. Intelligence, including remote control technology, addresses two key industry challenges: operator safety and the physical limitations of on-site equipment.

Traditional construction relies heavily on on-site operators, exposing workers to hazardous environments. Early remote control solutions suffered from poor user experience and unstable connectivity, limiting their scalability in practical applications. To address these issues, SANY invested nearly a decade in R&D to launch the SY550HD 5G remote-controlled excavator. This product integrates low latency, high precision, and intelligent safety, forming a commercially viable solution.

  • Low Latency and Long-Distance Control: End-to-end latency typically ranges from 120 to 180 milliseconds, but SANY leverages 5G and AI algorithms to achieve a stable latency of 120–140 milliseconds. This enables real-time control from distances of up to 8,500 kilometers, reducing operational lag and command delays. The SY550HD is compatible with public, private, or hybrid networks, supporting remote operations across regions and network types.
  • High Precision: SANY’s self-developed 3D motion and depth perception technology, combined with an intelligent loading assistance system, replicates on-site operating conditions and provides operator-level situational awareness. With this 3D spatial perception, operators can accurately assess complex environments and perform millimeter-level precision operations—suitable for mines, remote field sites, and emergency response scenarios.
  • Intelligent Safety: Multi-dimensional sensors and AI algorithms together build a digital protection system with millisecond-level response, enabling personnel detection, intelligent collision avoidance, and equipment health monitoring. At the system level, the machine can autonomously collect point cloud data and real-time video, supporting environmental perception, risk identification, and task adaptation, forming an operational model where “the machine handles perception, humans maintain control, and remote systems collaborate for execution.”

Looking ahead, SANY will continue to increase R&D investment, focusing on core electric powertrain components, AI-assisted operations, unmanned construction, digital platforms, and integrated mining equipment. The goal is to further refine its intelligent product matrix and expand large-scale commercial deployment.
