Shenzhen Kerry Construction Plaza Launches “Sustainable Community Plan”

SHENZHEN, ChinaMay 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — As sustainability becomes the common language of global business, green transformation is no longer an “option” but a “must-answer question” concerning future competitiveness. Whether companies can translate this long-term strategy into sustainable daily actions is becoming key to determining their value resilience.

On May 13, Kerry Plaza Shenzhen officially launched the “Community for Good” initiative, responding to this core issue. Themed “Value Co-creation and Sustainable Practices,” the event brought together the Futian District Government, international sustainability organizations, university experts, and 31 “Green Partners” tenants from the community to embark on a new phase of sustainable community building.

From Space Operations to Community Co-creation

— Launch of the ‘Community for Good’ Initiative

As a key opening segment of the event, witnessed by guests on-site, Ms. Tang Anqi, Deputy Regional General Manager of Kerry Properties South, unveiled the ‘Community for Good’ initiative. This initiative is not just a proposal but a systematic practical framework designed to drive action through mechanisms and amplify value through collaboration. It aims to integrate and connect the ESG practices of community enterprises, continuously enhancing their long-term impact. The core of this launch focuses on three key areas: green leasing, green fit-outs, and a co-creation platform, pushing sustainability from concept to quantifiable, participatory, and sustainable daily practices.

Kerry Properties has long regarded sustainable development as a core strategy for its long-term growth. As early as 2014, Kerry Properties published its first sustainability report and has consistently benchmarked its practices against international standards—achieving GRESB 5-Star rating for five consecutive years, an MSCI ESG AA rating, and consecutive inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook. Building on this long-term practice and accumulation, Kerry Plaza Shenzhen has continuously explored pathways to implement sustainability at the project level.

KERRY PLAZA FORUM

— From ESG Trends to the Long-Term Value of Office Spaces

Following the launch ceremony, the ‘KERRY PLAZA FORUM’ commenced. Experts from international organizations including the World Green Organization (WGO), Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), and the Climate Fresk, along with tenant representatives, engaged in discussions covering ESG trends, biophilic design, healthy buildings, climate action, corporate collaboration, and community operations, offering a high-quality exchange of ideas for the guests present.

Dr. Yuen Yuen-ching, CEO of the World Green Organization and Director of the Hong Kong Circular Economy Society, delivered a keynote titled “How ESG Empowers Corporate Value,” analyzing the evolution of ESG from a global perspective. He pointed out that ESG is transforming from a compliance requirement into a component of long-term corporate competitiveness and organizational resilience, becoming a significant engine influencing corporate development and growth.

Professor Christiane M. Herr, Head of Teaching at the School of Design at SUSTech, shared in her presentation that a vibrant office community should, beyond efficiency, foster closeness with nature and attend to human feelings, connections, and physical and mental well-being.

From Efficiency Carrier to Value Co-creation

— Rethinking the Role of Office Spaces

What kind of office space truly qualifies as a sustainable community? How can an office space transform from an efficiency carrier into a value platform?

During the panel discussion, invited guests explored the theme “From Efficiency Carrier to Value Platform: Redefining the Role of Office Spaces.” They shared insights and debated from four perceptible perspectives: whether the space is people-friendly, whether social consensus can translate into action, whether enterprises can participate collectively, and whether concepts can be truly implemented within the community. This re-examined the role of office spaces in the era of sustainability.

Green Goes Beyond the Launch

— Sustainable Actions Continue Unfolding

Simultaneously, Kerry Plaza Shenzhen will continue to respond to its long-term responsibilities with tangible investments. This year, the project will initiate an AEI upgrade project, systematically optimizing environmental quality, spatial experience, and functional configurations. This will translate backend system capabilities into daily improvements perceptible to tenants, including a more stable indoor environment, a more comfortable office experience, more efficient use of public spaces, and smoother service responses. This represents a commitment to community partners, as well as an ongoing pledge to asset long-term value and social sustainable development.

On April 22 this year, Qianhai Kerry Center had already launched the ‘City Green Action Plan.’ In the future, Kerry Plaza Shenzhen will collaborate with Qianhai Kerry Center to deepen this concept through a dual-project linkage, exploring more exemplary sustainable community models and injecting more resilient long-term value into the city.

Sustainable, co-created green actions are still unfolding. The sustainable community that Kerry Plaza Shenzhen aims to build will use the community as the smallest action unit, consolidating scattered practices into an actionable, measurable, and replicable action system. This is precisely the significance of “value co-creation”: enterprises gain a better development environment within the community, and the community continues to grow through the sustained participation of enterprises. Both empower and achieve each other, jointly forging a more resilient future value.
