Singapore Partners with Global Allies to Enhance AI Industry Ecosystem and Accelerate Technology Deployment

SingaporeMay 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — At the 2026 Asia Tech Summit (ATxSummit 2026), hosted by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs. Josephine Teo, announced several new global collaboration projects and development initiatives aimed at further solidifying Singapore’s position as a leading global hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI). These initiatives mark a shift in Singapore’s AI development focus from technological exploration to the research, deployment, and governance of real-world AI systems, creating tangible social value. As outlined in the recent Economic Strategies Committee review, Singapore is committed to building a trusted hub to scale the research, testing, and deployment of AI solutions that address real-world problems.

Singapore Government Partners with Eight Industry Leaders for Physical AI Research, Testing, and Deployment at Punggol Digital District

IMDA, JTC Corporation, and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), in collaboration with eight leading industry players, are advancing the application of physical AI at the Punggol Digital District. This testing platform, set to officially launch in the second half of 2026, is Singapore’s first comprehensive public pilot space for scaling physical AI technologies across multiple application scenarios and operational entities. Companies such as Certis, DHL, Grab, and QuikBot will be among the first to participate in the co-design, scenario deployment, functional testing, and commercial validation of commercially viable robotic services, including food delivery, parcel delivery, cleaning, and security patrols, serving as a complement to human labor. The testing platform operates under an estate-level exemption framework under the Active Mobility Act, with support from the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

To strengthen Singapore’s capabilities in embodied AI (EAI), IMDA and the National Robotics Programme (NRP), together with FieldAI, Thoughtworks, and companies such as Slamtec, Unitree, and QuikBot, are collaborating through SIT’s new Intelligent Robotics Research Centre at the Punggol Digital District to jointly develop and pilot various embodied AI application scenarios.

Strengthening Singapore’s Frontier AI Research Capabilities

To further highlight Singapore’s manufacturing strengths, NVIDIA has officially established the Singapore AI Research Lab, its second research facility in the Asia-Pacific region. It will collaborate with university research teams, industry partners, and government agencies to delve into embodied AI and high-efficiency AI technologies.

The lab focuses on two areas with potential for manufacturing application: first, embodied AI, enabling intelligent systems to perceive, reason, and act autonomously in real-world environments; and second, high-efficiency AI computing technologies, which reduce computing costs and improve energy efficiency by optimizing models and underlying architectures, laying a solid foundation for the large-scale deployment of AI.

Accelerating AI for Public Benefit: Multiple New Industry Partnerships Reached

MDDI has entered into a national-level AI partnership with Google, expanding government-enterprise collaboration. This partnership aims to leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to address various societal challenges, cultivate Singapore’s AI talent pool, and build a safe, reliable, and trustworthy industry ecosystem.

MDDI has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with OpenAI, officially launching the “OpenAI for Singapore” initiative to help Singapore become a global hub for applied AI innovation. The collaboration covers advancing applied AI innovation and research, nurturing AI talent, and promoting the widespread adoption of AI technologies among citizens, businesses, and public institutions. OpenAI has committed to investing over SGD 300 million to enhance Singapore’s AI industry ecosystem.

Building a Foundation for Trusted, Scalable AI Deployment

Singapore continues to strengthen its supporting industry ecosystem to drive the comprehensive empowerment of AI in core, high-trust sectors such as finance and government, adhering to strict standards of technological reliability, compliance governance, and application security.

Temus, an AI and digital transformation company under Temasek, will launch an AI innovation enablement platform to help enterprises scale AI solutions and establish industry talent pipelines. Supported by Singapore’s Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), the platform plans to recruit 50 professionals to deploy industry projects in areas such as financial services and precision healthcare within various enterprises.

The Institute for Infocomm Research (A*STAR I2R) under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research continues to upgrade the MERaLiON (Multimodal Empathetic Reasoning and Learning Integrated Omnibus Network) AI large model, comprehensively optimizing technical capabilities, expanding real-world application scenarios, and broadening technology accessibility. The newly upgraded MERaLiON AudioLLM v3 can accurately recognize and analyze paralinguistic information in multiple Southeast Asian languages. MERaLiON supports cloud deployment, API calls, and edge device integration, and is compatible with Apple silicon devices such as Macs and iPads.

Governance Evolving in Step with AI Development Speed

Singapore adheres to a pragmatic, risk-tiered approach to AI governance, reflected in two initiatives:

  • Updated Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI: First released at the World Economic Forum in January 2026, the framework has been iteratively refined based on real-world case studies and new best practices contributed by over 50 organizations.
  • Google Releases AI Agent Whitepaper: Google, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), the Government Technology Agency of Singapore, and IMDA, explores safe and efficient pathways for deploying AI agents. This whitepaper provides practical guidance for countries to leverage AI agents for societal benefit.

As Singapore’s AI industry ecosystem continues to mature, these initiatives will accelerate the transformation of innovation into tangible social impact, further solidifying Singapore’s position as a global trusted AI hub, bringing together enterprises, research institutions, and government to scale the research, testing, and deployment of AI solutions.

During today’s summit, Singapore Minister Mrs. Josephine Teo attended the ASEAN-U.S. Ministerial Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence. The meeting brought together ASEAN Digital Ministers, the ASEAN Secretariat, U.S. government representatives, and senior executives from companies such as Amazon and Google, coinciding with the launch of the “ASEAN-U.S. Cooperation Plan Towards the 50th Anniversary of Relations” to implement the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Key discussions focused on promoting inclusive AI adoption across the ASEAN region.
