St. David’s Medical Center Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute to Host International Conference on Complex Arrhythmias

The EPLive 2026 conference, spanning two days, brings together the world’s top cardiac electrophysiology experts

AUSTIN, TexasMay 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute (TCAI) at St. David’s Medical Center will host the 8th International Symposium on Complex Arrhythmias from May 28 to 29, 2026. EPLive, held biennially since 2012, is a two-day, highly specialized educational conference aimed at physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, and allied health professionals dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of complex arrhythmias—conditions where the heart beats with an irregular or abnormal rhythm. The conference will use real-time intraoperative cases as its primary teaching tool, broadcast live from St. David’s Medical Center’s state-of-the-art electrophysiology center with expert commentary.

“EPLive 2026 is a unique opportunity for the global electrophysiology community to come together and learn in real time through complex case education,” said Andrea Natale, MD, FACC, FHRS, FESC, cardiac electrophysiologist and Executive Medical Director at TCAI, and Course Director of EPLive. “By combining live procedures showcasing the most innovative advances in the field with expert discussions, we create a highly practical and valuable experience. Professionals can directly apply what they learn to their daily practice, improving patient outcomes worldwide.”

Arrhythmias are typically treated surgically by targeting the abnormal heart rhythm source. This year, EPLive will highlight a more streamlined approach that combines two treatments—atrial fibrillation (A Fib) ablation and left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO)—into a single procedure for stroke-prone A Fib patients. By addressing both the abnormal rhythm and a common stroke risk source simultaneously, physicians can eliminate the need for multiple surgeries, reduce procedure time and complication risks, offering patients safer and more efficient care.

EPLive 2026 will feature four sessions: Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Cases, Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) Ablation Cases, Left Atrial Appendage (LAA) Occlusion Cases, and a Device Session including new technology introductions. These sessions will include live and recorded cases from TCAI and leading electrophysiology centers worldwide, including Belgium (AZ Sint-Jan Brugge; UZ Brussel), Canada (Vancouver General Hospital), Colombia (Cardioinfantil Foundation International Arrhythmia Center), Italy (Centro Cardiologico Monzino), and the United States (Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix, Cleveland Clinic, Houston Methodist, Kansas City Heart Rhythm Institute, Massachusetts General, MedStar Health, Montefiore Einstein, Mt. Sinai Hospital, St. Bernard’s Heart and Vascular Center, UC Health Center, UCLA Health, University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center).

The conference will also focus on several objectives, including:

  • Identifying protocols to reduce complications and enhance patient safety measures during atrial fibrillation ablation and other arrhythmia treatments.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the latest evidence and guidelines for arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment using new technologies.
  • Optimizing clinical outcomes by adopting protocols that fully leverage the new technologies showcased.
  • Identifying processes that can benefit from the integration of new technologies and promote improved patient surgical safety.
  • Identifying protocols to reduce complications and strengthen patient safety measures during complex cardiac device implantation and lead extraction.

In addition to Dr. Natale, several TCAI physicians will present at EPLive, including Course Co-Directors Amin Al-Ahmad, MD; Luigi DiBiase, MD; and Dhanunjaya “DJ” Lakkireddy, MD, as well as John Allison, MD; Khaled Awad, MD; Mohamed Bassiouny, MD; David Burkhardt, MD; David Burkland, MD; Robert Canby, MD; Joseph Gallinghouse, MD; Rodney Horton, MD; Patrick Hranitzky, MD; and Jason Zagrodzky, MD.

Attending physicians may earn up to 14.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

The Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute is home to one of North America’s leading robotic electrophysiology centers. The 72,000-square-foot facility, opened in 2019, includes six electrophysiology labs equipped with advanced technology for treating complex arrhythmias. With a team of world-renowned physicians, the institute is one of the largest electrophysiology practices in the United States, offering unparalleled experience, expertise, and excellence in care.
