“The 2026 FIFA World Cup is a landmark moment for our country, and this $1 circulation coin carries the national pride and unity of welcoming the world,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and Minister of National Revenue. “Canadians know the power of sports to bring people together, which is why we recently invested $755 million in Canadian sports—the largest such investment in 20 years. This coin pays tangible tribute to this global event, creating economic opportunities and inspiring a new generation of Canadians in a uniquely Canadian way.”
“For years, the Royal Canadian Mint has been capturing iconic Canadian sports moments on coins. We are delighted to introduce this circulation coin to commemorate a new milestone: Canada’s first time hosting a FIFA World Cup men’s tournament,” said Simon Kamel, Interim President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. “We are honored to have created a lasting keepsake that allows Canadian fans to treasure the moment as the national team plays on home soil for the first time in World Cup history, and as the country unites to cheer them on.”
Designed by Canadian artist Glen Green, the coin’s reverse features the upper portion of a FIFA26 CAN maple leaf mosaic. In the colored version, orange-red gradient blocks represent global fans gathering to cheer on soccer players. The official 2026 FIFA World Cup emblem is engraved on the left, while a dynamic soccer ball motif appears on the right, with the host cities “Toronto” and “Vancouver” inscribed below. These elements are encircled by the inscriptions “FIFA WORLD CUP 26TM/MC” and “COUPE DU MONDE DE LA FIFA 26MC/TM.”
The coin’s obverse features the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
“The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially part of Canadian history, and today we open a new chapter in the nation’s story,” said Vittorio Montagliani, FIFA Vice President and President of CONCACAF. “Canadians across the country will soon hold this meaningful coin in their hands. This small coin carries a big story—it represents not just a tournament, but Canada’s emergence on the world stage as a host nation, and our shared anticipation of welcoming global guests this summer.”
From June 11 to July 19, 2026, Toronto and Vancouver will host 13 matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Canadian men’s national team has qualified for the tournament, giving Canadian fans the first opportunity to watch their national team play on home soil in two host cities.
This new commemorative $1 circulation coin is limited to 3 million pieces, including 2 million colored versions, and entered circulation on May 14, 2026. Canadians can receive the coin in everyday change as banks and retailers replenish their $1 coin inventory.
Both colored and regular versions are available in five-coin sets, which include three nickel-plated steel 25-cent coins themed “Canada Welcomes the World,” “Official FIFA World Cup Mascot,” and “The Match.” Each set is unique, featuring variable printing technology that produces countless packaging color combinations within FIFA’s official color palette.
Separately, 25-coin rolls (both regular and colored versions) are available for purchase, along with a special gift box set containing one roll of each version and one commemorative circulation coin of each type.
