Nanjing, ChinaMay 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Recently, an award ceremony was held between TÜV Rheinland Greater China (referred to as “TÜV Rheinland”), an internationally independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, and Changan Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Changan Mazda”). With the assistance of TÜV Rheinland, the MAZDA 6e model obtained the European Union Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) certificate issued by the Swedish Transport Agency (STA), as well as the United Kingdom Type Approval (GBTA) and Australian Design Rules (ADR) type approval certificates. This marks that the model simultaneously meets the mandatory market access regulatory requirements of the EU, UK, and Australia, injecting strong momentum into Changan Mazda’s global strategic layout.

TÜV Rheinland Assists Changan Mazda in Obtaining EU WVTA, UK GBTA, and Australian ADR Type Approval Certificates
Representatives from both parties, including Changan Mazda Vice President of Manufacturing Chen Weidong, Product R&D Center Director Ozawa Hiroshi, Product R&D Center Deputy Director Yuan Ying, TÜV Rheinland Greater China Senior Vice President of Transportation Services Huang Yuxin, and Deputy General Manager of International Market Access Li You, attended the award ceremony.

In this project, Changan Mazda simultaneously advanced the three core certifications of EU WVTA, UK GBTA, and Australian ADR, covering the entire chain of work including vehicle certification, technical consultation, and compliance support. This involved multiple challenges such as significant differences in regulations across countries, frequent project changes, complex cross-border coordination, and uncontrollable approval timelines. Based on the regulatory requirements of the target markets, the teams from both sides efficiently completed systematic tasks including regulatory interpretation, technical verification, and product testing, ensuring the project was delivered on schedule.
Among these, the WVTA certification strictly adheres to EU Regulation (EU) 2018/858 and subsequent amendments, covering multiple dimensions such as vehicle safety, environmental protection, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), cybersecurity (UN-R155), and software updates (UN-R156). The GBTA certification is an independent vehicle type approval system implemented after the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, maintaining high alignment with the EU WVTA in technical requirements while making adaptive adjustments to UK-specific regulations. The ADR certification, on the other hand, is a design rule certification under Australia’s Motor Vehicle Standards Act, covering key performance indicators such as braking, lighting, crash safety, emissions, and anti-theft, emphasizing item-by-item compliance and post-market surveillance. Notably, this ADR certification leveraged TÜV Rheinland’s officially recognized laboratory qualifications in Australia, allowing the entire process to be completed domestically, significantly reducing prototype vehicle and transportation costs, and effectively helping Changan Mazda maintain control over its certification ownership.
Chen Weidong stated in his remarks: “The simultaneous acquisition of these three certifications for the MAZDA 6e is a significant milestone in Changan Mazda’s globalization strategy. We thank the TÜV Rheinland team for their professional technical support and efficient cross-border coordination services, which helped us overcome regulatory differences and certification barriers, greatly shortening the market access timeline. In the future, Changan Mazda will continue to drive manufacturing upgrades with high standards, allowing more users to experience driving pleasure and assured quality.”
Huang Yuxin said: “From the first EU WVTA certificate for the MAZDA 6e last year to the issuance of three certificates this year, the cooperation between TÜV Rheinland and Changan Mazda has deepened and solidified. Promoting joint venture brands to go global can integrate technological and channel advantages to efficiently expand the global automotive consumer market. We look forward to further strengthening exchanges and cooperation between both parties in the future. TÜV Rheinland will continue to leverage its extensive experience and technical strengths in automotive testing and certification to help Changan Mazda steadily advance toward the global market.”
