Changzhou, JiangsuApril 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Recently, TÜV Rheinland Greater China (referred to as “TÜV Rheinland”), an independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, launched the “Lawn Care” certification standard, further expanding its testing and certification service portfolio for lawn mowing robots. This certification focuses on evaluating the robot’s ability to protect the lawn during operation while ensuring high-quality mowing performance, helping manufacturers design products that meet user demands for maintaining long-term lawn health.

Two lawn mowing robots from Willand, a subsidiary of Segway-Ninebot, the X420 and i206 AWD, successfully passed TÜV Rheinland’s “Lawn Care” certification, thanks to their outstanding lawn protection capabilities and stable mowing performance. Recently, at the “100 Millionth Smart Lawn Mowing Robot Offline Ceremony” held at Willand’s Changzhou R&D and production base, TÜV Rheinland presented the certification certificates. Representatives from both parties, including Willand CEO Ren Guanjiao, President and CTO Chen Zichong, and TÜV Rheinland Global Senior Vice President of Electrical and Electronic Product Services Frank Holzmann, attended the ceremony.
TÜV Rheinland’s “Lawn Care” certification simulates various real-world usage scenarios and evaluates robots across four dimensions: basic mowing performance, operation on complex terrain, extreme working conditions, and user experience. For basic mowing performance, an accelerated model simulates the quality of work over a year of mowing in a standard garden environment, including mowing coverage, efficiency, and the health and aesthetics of the lawn post-operation. For complex terrain, the focus is on the robot’s performance during omnidirectional driving and mowing on slopes, as well as whether slope operations cause additional damage to the lawn. For extreme conditions, more challenging environments are simulated, such as operating in dense grass or navigating gardens with complex layouts, to assess the robot’s resilience. For user experience, the evaluation covers ease of installation and maintenance, as well as the intuitiveness of the accompanying application.
At the ceremony, Ren Guanjiao reviewed Willand’s development journey: from the launch of the first boundary-free lawn mowing robot in 2021, to gradual large-scale implementation, technological leaps, expansion of the product matrix, and the successful offline production of the 100 millionth lawn mowing robot this year, driving the intelligent transformation of the garden tools market.

Chen Zichong stated: “The key to the X420 and i206 AWD passing these rigorous tests lies in their Xero-turn™ zero-turn all-wheel drive system. This technology, through precise drive control, enables flexible movement similar to a tank’s pivot turn, providing stable, non-slip traction even on complex terrains like slopes and gravel roads. As a result, it effectively avoids lateral tearing of the lawn during turns, minimizing damage to an extremely low level.”

TÜV Rheinland Global Senior Vice President of Electrical and Electronic Product Services Frank Holzmann
Holzmann commented: “The global lawn mowing robot market is in a phase of rapid growth, with user demands evolving from basic mowing functions to lawn protection and eco-friendliness, placing higher requirements on manufacturers’ R&D capabilities. Following the launch of the ‘Efficient Mowing’ certification service last year, the introduction of the ‘Lawn Care’ certification standard marks a new milestone for TÜV Rheinland’s evaluation of lawn mowing robots, moving from safety and efficiency to higher-level performance and ecological care, providing professional guidance for consumer purchasing decisions. We look forward to deepening our cooperation with Willand and working together to offer global consumers smarter, more environmentally friendly high-end products.”
