ADI Launches A²B™ 2.0 to Elevate the Next-Generation In-Vehicle Audio Experience

  • A²B 2.0 (ADAA245x series) is now fully in mass production, supporting OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in production ramp-up
  • Delivers a 4x bandwidth increase while retaining deterministic low latency (62μs) performance and a simple architecture
  • A2B 2.0 is designed for software-defined vehicles, supporting Ethernet data tunneling via the Open Alliance SPI (OASPI) interface, compatible withA²B 1.0 cables and connectors, and can reduce system costs by up to30%

BeijingApril 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Analog Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADI), a global leader in semiconductor technology, today announced that A²B 2.0 (Automotive Audio Bus) is now fully in mass production. As the latest upgrade to ADI’s A²B technology, A²B 2.0 builds on the proven low-latency and simple architecture advantages of A²B over the years, while delivering higher bandwidth and Ethernet integration capabilities, enabling OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to achieve richer in-cabin audio experiences.

Proven and Mature Technology Foundation: A Decade of A²B Deployment

Over the past decade, A²B has been widely adopted in the automotive industry, with more than 35 automakers deploying hundreds of millions of nodes in vehicles, laying a solid foundation for the next generation of this technology.

A²B is purpose-built for applications requiring deterministic low latency, offering a simple, flexible, and cost-effective audio connectivity solution that easily handles demanding scenarios such as road noise cancellation and in-cabin communication. It employs a daisy-chain architecture with a single master node and multiple slave nodes, reducing wiring complexity and associated costs by up to 75%. Additionally, this simple architecture requires no software overhead, further helping OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers shorten overall development time and reduce development investment.

Thanks to an ecosystem encompassing OEMs, chip partners, and original design manufacturers (ODMs), along with a wealth of development and testing tools, A²B’s market momentum continues to grow, significantly accelerating time-to-market.

Transitioning to Modern In-Vehicle Networks and Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) Architectures

As vehicles evolve toward software-defined architectures, in-cabin functions are increasingly realized and enhanced through software. This trend places higher demands on in-vehicle connectivity technologies, requiring not only determinism and high bandwidth but also seamless integration with modern in-vehicle networks. In-cabin technology is becoming a key differentiator for automakers, with rising consumer expectations for premium audio and infotainment experiences driving demand for higher bandwidth and advanced connectivity that seamlessly integrates with current in-vehicle networks.

Yasmine King, Vice President and General Manager of ADI’s Automotive Business Unit, stated: “As the cabin continues to move toward being software-defined, audio becomes a core element in how drivers perceive exceptional in-vehicle experiences, safety, and agile responsiveness. In this new era, engineers need an audio connectivity solution that seamlessly integrates with the broader vehicle network. A²B 2.0 delivers higher bandwidth, low latency, and Ethernet tunneling capabilities without increasing architectural complexity.”

A²B 2.0: Built for Next-Generation Cabins and SDV Architectures

A²B 2.0 expands the A²B platform’s capabilities by achieving higher bandwidth and Ethernet compatibility while maintaining the low-latency and simple architecture advantages of its predecessor. Key features include:

  • Higher Performance and Scalability
    • 4x bandwidth increase (up to 98.3 Mbps, full-duplex), supporting more advanced in-vehicle audio architectures.
    • Supports up to 119 upstream and 119 downstream audio channels, meeting the configuration needs of advanced automotive audio systems.
  • Ethernet Compatibility
    • Enables Ethernet data tunneling via the industry-standard Open Alliance SPI (OASPI) interface, enhancing connectivity and flexibility.
  • Cost Efficiency, Low Latency, and Easy Upgrades
    • Reduces system costs by up to 30% through higher functional integration, simplified external circuitry, and fewer external components.
    • Offers low and deterministic latency (notably 62μs low latency) with an architecture designed for straightforward integration.
    • Compatible with existing A²B 1.0 cables and connector infrastructure for easy upgrades. Additionally, ADAA245x devices can be easily integrated into A²B 1.0 networks, maximizing reuse of existing modules.
