Building Authentic Expression from Sweden
Wuhan and ShijiazhuangMay 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On May 1, 2026, Peak Performance, a premium outdoor brand rooted in the Swedish mountains, officially opened its “Stonewood” store at Wuhan International Plaza. After decades of alpine sports exploration and refinement, Peak Performance continues to build its unique Nordic brand expression. The “Stonewood” concept at the Wuhan International Plaza store blends the brand’s freeride skiing spirit with Scandinavian design language, creating a retail space that balances functionality and aesthetic expression.

Peak Performance store at Wuhan International Plaza
Since its founding in 1986 in Åre, Sweden, Peak Performance has upheld its dual pursuit of performance and aesthetics, creating products and experiences that convey the spirit of freeride skiing to the world. The opening of this new store in Wuhan is not only an upgrade of the retail space but also a contemporary expression of the brand’s Swedish roots and a return to pure Nordic aesthetics.
Translating Swedish Aesthetics into Space: Building an Immersive Outdoor Experience
Inspired by the “Stonewood” concept, the store design recreates Swedish snow-capped mountains, wooden cabins, and pristine landscapes, embedding the Swedish people’s pure love for outdoor lifestyles and their long-term commitment to “functionality and aesthetics” into every spatial detail.
The store’s exterior facade features the brand’s iconic Helium quilted pattern, inspired by the curves left by skiers on the slopes, now a key part of Peak Performance’s visual identity. Building on this, the overall space further integrates Swedish minimalist expression through the combination of granite, limestone, and natural wood, depicting a scene of Swedish mountains embracing wooden cabins and showcasing the unique restrained aesthetics of Scandinavia.

In the open space, the harmonious interplay of warm wood and solid stone achieves a comfortable balance, much like the natural coexistence of Nordic ridges and forests. Here, “Sweden” is not just an aesthetic visual but transforms into a tangible spatial texture and natural tactility.

Upon entering this new space, a distinctive wooden boardwalk landscape greets visitors. Inspired by the boardwalks of Sweden’s most beautiful hiking trail, Kungsleden (The King’s Trail), the “Kungsleden-style” circulation design allows customers to freely navigate different areas, creating an immersive experience where “the scenery changes with every step.” Each area draws inspiration from northern Sweden, connected by the Swedish national tree, the birch, translating the 450-kilometer Kungsleden, its landscapes, landmarks, and nodes into the store’s interior. This design not only presents the layers and rhythms of Sweden’s natural scenery but also echoes Peak Performance’s philosophy of “orderly layering,” making the retail space an emotional touchpoint connecting customers’ senses with memories of Swedish polar hiking.

ÅreLab: Continuing the Long-Term Sustainable Practices from Sweden
In addition to the new spatial design, the Wuhan International Plaza store also introduces the ÅreLab space for the first time. As a key part of Peak Performance’s after-sales service system, ÅreLab not only offers professional garment repair and functional maintenance services but also creates a comprehensive space integrating outdoor gear research, innovation, and performance extension.
The space is built with authentic Swedish red brick, echoing Sweden’s unique “Falu red.” Originally used to protect wooden cabins, this red material has gradually become a symbol of warmth and restraint in Swedish culture. Thus, the material is not just a decorative language but an extension of the relationship with use—allowing gear to have a longer life journey, enduring and warm like the red brick.
Born in the small town of Åre in northern Sweden, the ÅreLab concept embodies the brand’s reverence for the natural environment and its commitment to long-term value. Influenced by Swedish sustainable culture and circular economy principles, Peak Performance views outdoor gear as “long-term partners” that can be continuously used and optimized.

ÅreLab will extend product lifecycles through multi-dimensional services such as professional cleaning, functional maintenance, material repair, and gear usage knowledge sharing, helping equipment maintain peak performance so it can accompany users on their next hike, ski trip, or outdoor exploration. With the launch of this new space, Peak Performance extends “performance continuity” from product philosophy to the consumer retail experience, making sustainability not just a value statement but a tangible practice that can be experienced and participated in.

Rooted in Swedish Outdoor Culture: Building a Scenario-Based Product Matrix and Layering System
Peak Performance’s product matrix is built around two core outdoor scenarios: SKI and HIKE. This division stems from Sweden’s unique natural environment and outdoor cultural traditions. The long snowy season makes freeride skiing the most representative winter sport in Sweden; during other times, hiking through forests, highlands, and wilderness allows for a continuous connection with nature through the changing seasons.
Against this lifestyle backdrop, skiing and hiking are fundamental ways for Swedes to understand, engage with, and love nature. The brand uses this as a starting point to develop a product system covering different climates and terrains, offering professional gear solutions that balance performance and aesthetic expression for target users.

Previously, Peak Performance officially launched the new Freelight family, embracing the Swedish concept of Lagom—”just the right amount”—to break down product boundaries and build a dynamic, all-season clothing regulation system. The Freelight family series is no longer just a collection of individual products but rethinks outdoor dressing logic with a modular approach, guiding users to establish a more direct connection between their environment and body sensations, seeking the perfect balance between temperature, scale, and style. In the face of changing outdoor conditions and all-season wearing needs, each item in the family can be used independently for different scenarios or combined through flexible layering for functional synergy, forming a systematic “layered with measure” dressing logic.

As a key offline carrier of the brand’s visual identity and Swedish heritage, the Peak Performance store at Wuhan International Plaza extends the outdoor spirit and lifestyle from the Swedish mountains into the retail space, strengthening the brand’s experiential expression in the Chinese market. In the future, the brand will continue to explore the balance between Swedish performance and aesthetics, gradually expanding to more cities. Peak Performance’s Shijiazhuang MixC store also opened on May 1, bringing this Swedish outdoor aesthetic and lifestyle philosophy to more cities.
