Muscat, OmanJune 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran held discussions in Muscat during the visit of His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and His Excellency Dr. Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

JOINT STATEMENT THE SULTANATE OF OMAN AND THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN

During the visit, the Iranian delegation met with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and held discussions with His Excellency Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed its support for the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and reiterated the importance of maintaining dialogue and coordination to support its successful implementation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, as littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirmed their commitment to safe passage through the Strait in accordance with applicable international law, while emphasizing their sovereignty and sovereign rights over the territorial waters of the Strait of Hormuz. In accordance with the provisions of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the two sides discussed matters related to the Strait of Hormuz.

They agreed to maintain dialogue on this topic through a joint working group between the two ministries of foreign affairs, in order to reach an agreement on the future management of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the services to be provided in this regard and related fees, in accordance with international standards. In this context, they also agreed to hold discussions with other littoral states in the region and any other relevant parties.

All arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz must fully respect the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the two littoral states of the Strait.

The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the Strait of Hormuz as a safe and open waterway for international navigation. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in promoting maritime safety, freedom of navigation, and regional stability.
