Black Sesame Intelligence Releases FAD Tianyan L3 Autonomous Driving Platform

ShanghaiApril 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On April 24, Black Sesame Technologies officially launched the “FAD Tianyan” L3 autonomous driving platform, built on the FAD 2.0 open platform, at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. This marks the concrete implementation of the FAD 2.0 open platform, accelerating the large-scale application of the Huashan A2000 family of chips.


The FAD 2.0 open platform, unveiled earlier this year, consists of the Huashan A2000 family high-performance computing platform, supporting software SDK, the Shanhai AI toolchain, end-to-end/VLA reference models, and third-party algorithm models. It is a production-ready open platform designed for all-scenario general-purpose intelligent driving. The FAD Tianyan L3 autonomous driving platform, built on this platform, is based on the Huashan A2000U chip and adopts a dual-chip high-speed interconnect architecture, delivering an ultimate L3 experience.

On the hardware side, the FAD Tianyan platform is designed with dual A2000U chips. The A2000U provides 700 TOPS of equivalent computing power, features the self-developed Jiushao NPU architecture, and supports Transformer hardware acceleration and mixed-precision computing. The two chips achieve low-latency, high-bandwidth data collaboration through high-speed interconnect technology, operating redundantly. A single domain controller can meet ASIL-D requirements, achieving system-level ASIL-D reliability.

On the software side, the platform builds a multi-layered software isolation and security system, balancing functional safety and ecosystem compatibility. When the MCU is isolated, its power supply, internal bus, and SoC achieve physical-level isolation, functioning as an independent external MCU, fundamentally avoiding hardware common-cause failure risks. The information security subsystem strictly complies with the ISO 21434 standard, integrating national encryption algorithms, secure boot, and root certificate management to establish a comprehensive information security protection system. The functional safety subsystem is a self-developed ASIL-D level system by Black Sesame Technologies, equipped with the A2000 family’s dedicated chip safety library, providing comprehensive hardware and software fault detection and recovery capabilities. The SoC subsystem is an ASIL-B level Linux system, ensuring safety while offering maximum compatibility.

Currently, safety requirements for L3 autonomous driving systems are becoming increasingly clear. According to China’s mandatory national standard “Intelligent Connected Vehicles – Autonomous Driving System Safety Requirements,” set to take effect on July 1, 2027, L3 systems must be capable of performing all dynamic driving tasks when operating within their design conditions and in an activated state, with a safety level no lower than that of a qualified and attentive human driver. The FAD Tianyan platform is pre-configured for the L3 national mandatory standard, ensuring seamless regulatory compliance. The platform adopts an algorithm-heterogeneous and dual-redundancy mechanism. Perception, planning, and control modules all deploy dual-redundant or heterogeneous algorithms, running simultaneously and comparing results in real-time to effectively avoid systemic risks from a single algorithm, achieving industry-leading decision robustness.

To address the safety needs of L3 autonomous driving systems, the platform features a dual-chip high-speed interconnect architecture, redundant power supply design, multiple sensor redundancy, a strongly isolated MCU, and a software layered isolation mechanism. It also builds a hybrid safety foundation combining an ASIL-D level firmware and an ASIL-B level Linux system. Additionally, chip-to-chip interconnect enables computing power expansion, providing ample computational support for the ultimate L3 performance experience.

Autonomous driving has entered the phase of large-scale deployment.
