Safeguarding Continuity in Cancer Treatment: The Real-World Study of Sushu® Launches, Offering a New Solution for Oral Mucositis Management

ShanghaiApril 25, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On April 24, 2026, during the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) Guidelines Conference, the Tumor Immunotherapy Frontier Progress Seminar and the Real-World Study Launch of Oral Mucosal Liquid Dressing (Sushu®) were successfully held in Harbin. Initiated by the Beijing Huaxia Public Welfare Foundation and supported by the domestic innovative biopharmaceutical company Junshi Biosciences, the event was co-chaired by renowned oncology experts Professor Qin ShuKui, Professor Liang Jun, Professor Pan Hongming, Academician Ma Jun, and Professor Zhu Ji. It brought together multidisciplinary experts in the oncology field to engage in academic discussions on core topics such as the management of tumor treatment-related complications, optimization of supportive care, and improvement of patient treatment adherence. During the meeting, the national real-world study of Oral Mucosal Liquid Dressing (Sushu®) was officially launched.

Focusing on Management of Tumor Treatment Complications: From Efficacy Breakthroughs to Supportive Care System Building

Professor Qin ShuKui, Honorary President and Chief Expert of Shanghai Gaobo Tumor Hospital Affiliated to China Pharmaceutical University and Nanjing Tianyinshan Hospital, stated: “Current anti-tumor treatment modalities are continuously expanding, but while pursuing efficacy, we must also place high importance on managing treatment-related complications. Oral mucositis is a common issue for tumor patients undergoing various treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy, severely impacting treatment continuity and patient quality of life. The Sushu® real-world study is a public welfare and academic initiative. Its launch is expected to provide more evidence-based support for clinical practice and help improve the tumor supportive care system.”

As a key component of tumor supportive care, the management of oral mucositis directly affects patient treatment adherence and quality of life. Whether with traditional radiotherapy and chemotherapy or antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and targeted therapy, oral mucositis has a high incidence rate. It not only causes difficulty in swallowing and eating, anxiety, and depression, severely reducing quality of life, but can also lead to treatment delays or even interruptions, significantly increasing patient medical burden and treatment difficulty. There is an urgent need for universally effective intervention strategies.

Professor Pan Hongming, Department of Medical Oncology, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, stated: “Tumor treatment should not only focus on ‘tumor shrinkage’ but also on ‘whether the patient lives well.’ In clinical practice, we find that the pain caused by treatment-related complications often leads patients to discontinue standard treatment, affecting overall efficacy. Oral mucositis directly impacts patient eating and nutritional intake. How to alleviate such complications through effective supportive care measures and ensure patient quality of life is key to achieving long-term survival.”

Real-World Study Launch: Sushu® Provides a New Solution for Oral Mucositis Pain Management

The meeting held the launch ceremony for the real-world study of Oral Mucosal Liquid Dressing (Sushu®). The study plans to recruit Chinese patients nationwide who develop oral mucositis due to anti-tumor treatment (including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and antibody-drug conjugates). It aims to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Oral Mucosal Liquid Dressing (Sushu®) in treating oral mucositis caused by anti-tumor therapy in real-world clinical settings, with the goal of creating a safe and effective local intervention strategy and optimizing clinical treatment methods. The study is jointly led by Nanjing Tianyinshan Hospital and Zhejiang Cancer Hospital Affiliated to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, with Professor Qin ShuKui and Professor Zhu Ji serving as principal investigators.

Sushu® is a Class II medical device already on the market. Through a “physical film-forming protection” mechanism, it provides isolation protection for damaged mucosa, reducing irritation and alleviating pain at the source. Related studies show that pain relief can be achieved within 10 minutes of rinsing with Sushu®, with an average pain index reduction of 73.8% after 20 minutes, and the pain-relieving effect lasting up to 120 minutes.

Professor Zhu Ji, Vice President of Zhejiang Cancer Hospital and Director of the Heavy Ion Center, stated: “Tumor treatment has now entered an era of comprehensive therapy, with combined use of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, ADCs, and other modalities. However, complications such as oral mucositis are increasingly drawing attention. We look forward to the Sushu® real-world study covering a broader patient population, accurately capturing the actual needs of patients under different treatment regimens, and providing more detailed evidence-based support for clinical practice to help improve patient treatment experiences.”

As a “pioneer” in the domestic innovative drug industry, Junshi Biosciences has been deeply involved in the field of tumor treatment for over a decade. While investing in the research and development of new anti-tumor drugs, the company has also recognized unmet clinical needs in tumor supportive care, striving to provide patients with diversified solutions from treatment to care to improve their treatment experience. Through continuous scientific research and product innovation, the company hopes to offer warmer health support to tumor patients.

Mr. Wang Xingyuan, Chief Commercial Officer of Junshi Biosciences, stated: “The goal of tumor treatment is not only to extend patient survival time but also to enable patients to receive treatment with dignity and quality. The full-cycle health management of tumor patients is a key focus area for Junshi Biosciences. We are always committed to building a comprehensive tumor full-cycle diagnosis and treatment ecosystem, providing patients with a full range of treatment options from innovative drugs to supportive care. The launch of the Sushu® real-world study is an important practice for the company to deepen patient care and improve the tumor full-cycle health management system. We look forward to accumulating richer clinical data through this study to provide evidence-based support for oral mucositis management, help clinicians optimize treatment decisions, and ultimately enable more patients to benefit from innovative supportive treatment solutions.”
