GCash Empowers Philippine MSMEs with Accessible Funding

BangkokJune 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — GCash, the number one financial super app in the Philippines, is providing barrier-free financing for first-time borrowers who have long been excluded from the formal financial system, by using its AI-driven proprietary risk control approval tool. This move extends financing coverage to a wide range of users, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in need of funds to expand their businesses.

The above key points were shared by Tony Isidro, President and CEO of Fuse Financing Inc., the lending arm of GCash, at the 2026 Money20/20 Asia Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Unlocking Financing Channels for MSMEs

The majority of micro-enterprises in the Philippines operate informally. This means they lack collateral, credit history, and financial statements—requirements that are typical for traditional financial institutions.

As a result, approximately 57% of Philippine MSMEs still rely on informal lenders with extremely high interest rates, unable to access formal credit, making it difficult for them to restock, expand, or sustain daily operations.

Fuse Financing addresses this issue by offering a more transparent lending alternative within the GCash App, enabling users to access streamlined, collateral-free loans.

Isidro stated: “By integrating financial services directly into the GCash App, we are dismantling the barriers of traditional lending, such as heavy documentation requirements and physical distance constraints. This evolution is not just about speed; it is about meaningful financial inclusion.”

Empowering Grassroots Entrepreneurs

Products like GLoan Negosyo allow merchants to access loans of up to 350,000 Philippine pesos (approximately $5,700) within the GCash App, while through the GCash for Business portal’s GLoan Negosyo, users can obtain working capital of up to 2 million Philippine pesos (approximately $32,500), with loan structures tailored to the merchant’s actual sales cycles and inventory needs. Disbursement and repayment are all completed through the GCash App, which is particularly important for borrowers in remote areas who have difficulty reaching physical branches.

Supporting this is a 1.75 billion Philippine peso credit facility from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), specifically targeting women-led and rural MSMEs. This marks institutional capital beginning to follow the path that fintech has already paved.
