Gothenburg, SwedenMay 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Volvo Trucks has invested billions of Swedish kronor in technology research and development, and is now proudly unveiling the results, which will further strengthen its global product portfolio and market competitiveness, laying a solid foundation for years to come.
Volvo Trucks has launched a new heavy-duty electric truck with a range of up to 700 km on one charge. It recharges its batteries from 20%-80% in 50 minutes. Volvo is also introducing an upgraded range of electric truck models that will enable more transport segments and operators to shift from traditional fuels to electric.
The new energy-efficient internal combustion engine platform is not only compatible with a variety of renewable fuels but also ready for future hydrogen applications. Combined with a new electric drivetrain offering a range of up to 700 kilometers, this will help Volvo Trucks confidently meet future market demands and diverse transport scenarios.
Volvo Trucks’ sales operations span the globe, and its customers vary significantly in fuel supply, infrastructure, and preferences across different regions and markets. This necessitates a diverse range of efficient powertrain solutions.
“This launch is significant, as the decarbonization of the entire transport industry urgently needs acceleration. In most applications, our new electric trucks can already fully replace traditional trucks. However, in specific regions and transport sectors, both now and in the future, we still rely on internal combustion engines to reduce CO2 emissions. Adopting a unified engine platform helps us achieve synergies and scale up production,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
Volvo Trucks has introduced a new heavy-duty model with a range of up to 700 kilometers on a single charge. Additionally, Volvo has upgraded its electric product lineup to drive more transport segments and operators to transition from traditional fuels to electric power.
Internal combustion engines also play a key role in Volvo’s net-zero emissions roadmap. Volvo has unveiled a new 13-liter engine platform that will support both diesel and natural gas engine variants.
Both engines are natively compatible with renewable fuels such as biodiesel and biogas, paving the way for transport companies to build net-zero emission truck fleets. The next step for gas fuels is hydrogen internal combustion engines, which Volvo plans to commercialize by 2030.
Volvo’s new battery-electric trucks will enter the market starting in 2026, while the new internal combustion engines will go on sale in the third quarter of 2026.
