ShanghaiApril 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The 57th World Earth Day has arrived as scheduled. This year’s theme continues with “Our Energy, Our Planet,” further focusing on the crucial role of people and communities in environmental protection. This global issue has long been deeply rooted in the daily operations of the Ferrero Group. Ferrero consistently upholds its “Doing Good” sustainability strategy, committed to integrating green responsibility throughout the entire industry chain, empowering people, focusing on the development of raw material farming communities, and actively responding to the era’s call for green transformation.
Source Control, Strengthening Responsible Raw Material Sourcing
For Ferrero, deliciousness begins at the source. The Ferrero Group considers food safety and quality as its foundation, pursuing excellence with craftsmanship. It persistently adheres to responsible raw material sourcing, continuously improves the global supply chain traceability system, enhances the traceability of raw materials, and advocates for sustainable cultivation and procurement. Currently, the traceability of core raw materials in the global supply chain exceeds 90%, with cocoa traceability reaching 97% and hazelnuts reaching 94%[1]. From farm to table, every step is more transparent and trustworthy, ensuring that every piece of sweetness in consumers’ hands is verifiable.
While enhancing supply chain transparency, Ferrero also focuses on the long-term sustainable supply of core raw materials. Cocoa and hazelnuts are not only vital for product quality but are also closely linked to the ecological health of growing regions and the livelihoods of farmers. In Turkey, Ferrero works closely with hazelnut farm growers to promote scientific agricultural practices such as soil management, water-saving irrigation, and non-chemical pest control. This helps growers tackle climate change challenges, raises awareness about soil health and biodiversity protection, and further solidifies the foundation for a sustainable hazelnut supply chain.
Simultaneously, Ferrero always places people at the core, actively collaborating with international organizations like Save the Children. In cocoa-growing regions such as Côte d’Ivoire, Ferrero promotes the protection of children’s rights, safeguards growers’ interests, and supports long-term sustainable development in local communities.

Factory Operations, Implementing Multi-Process Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction
When raw materials enter the production phase, Ferrero’s environmental commitment is also reflected in various manufacturing details. Using the 2017/2018 fiscal year as a baseline, the Ferrero Group has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions directly generated by its business activities by 50% by 2030. So far, a 21.7% reduction has been achieved[2]. Furthermore, 90% of the electricity used in manufacturing and warehousing now comes from renewable sources[3], marking significant progress in energy structure transformation.
Coinciding with the inaugural year of China’s “15th Five-Year Plan,” accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development and synergistically promoting digitalization and greening have become important strategic deployments. In the Chinese market, Ferrero deeply integrates green concepts into localized production and operations. As a key production base, Ferrero’s Hangzhou factory systematically analyzes energy usage to identify key consumption areas, continuously introduces clean energy and innovative technologies, effectively reduces plastic use, energy consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions, and steadily progresses towards the goal of 100% green electricity. Recognized for its achievements in energy conservation, emission reduction, and green operations, the Ferrero Hangzhou factory building received the highest Platinum certification under the global Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system in 2025, becoming a significant practical example of Ferrero’s global sustainability efforts.

Additionally, Ferrero China collaborates with supply chain partners to promote green upgrades in logistics, expanding the use of new energy vehicles, promoting photovoltaic power generation, reusable packaging, and automation systems in warehousing, and utilizing a carbon footprint platform for real-time tracking and management of emission data.
Packaging Plastic Reduction, Promoting Perceptible Low-Carbon Consumption
Ferrero’s commitment to sustainable development is also evident in its product packaging. Ferrero continuously advances towards the goal of “over 90% of packaging being designed to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable.” Currently, 92.1% of product packaging features recyclable design. Regarding plastic reduction, the use of virgin plastic has significantly decreased, with the plastic-to-product weight ratio reduced by 13%[4].
Currently, Ferrero has replaced the packaging box material for Ferrero Rocher from polystyrene to polypropylene in the Chinese and North American markets, which is expected to reduce plastic use by approximately 11,000 tons[5]. Kinder Surprise is also comprehensively promoting the replacement of plastic spoons with paper spoons[6]. Through material optimization and the reduction of single-use plastics, Ferrero continuously extends low-carbon concepts from production to consumption, allowing consumers to participate in sustainable practices while enjoying delicious treats.
From raw material cultivation to production manufacturing, from logistics and transportation to the consumer end, the Ferrero Group consistently translates its sustainability commitments into measurable, actionable steps. Looking ahead, Ferrero will continue to advance its 2030 sustainability goals, driving green development through innovation and full-chain collaboration, diligently safeguarding every piece of sweetness and deliciousness.
